Parking in front of our house...
One of our neighbors parks in front of our house EVERY freaking night. He has a long driveway with plenty of room and could also park in front of his own house.
Would this bother you?
Would you say anything? (We just bought the house-----don't really want to start off on the wrong foot, but it's annoying.)

Re: Parking in front of our house...
My neighbor parks on the side of my house, facing the wrong way, every day. Instead of his own house. And since I have a 4 foot fence and he has an SUV, that's the view I get from my patio.
It does bother me but not terribly so anymore. It's the price I pay, living on a corner.
Maybe your neighbor parks that way so they don't have to turn around in the morning or block another car in the driveway. But yes, I can see where that could be annoying.
You could park your own car there to send a message, but I probably wouldn't bother if I had my own driveway.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
Ooooooo, this BOTHERS me! My DH laughs at how aggravated I let myself get over this.
I would not say anything, i just fester from a distance:/ I guess its not the end of the world and not enough to start a turf war over. But i totally feel for ya !
Edited for spelling, i got myself so worked up just thinking of this, i couldnt think straight, LOL

Re: Parking in front of our house...
Our neighbors don't park in front of the house, but sometimes their kid's friends park there and when they stay overnight it annoys me because they often park in such a way that they are just before, or even in front of, the mail and paper box. Same thing if they are parked there on weekend days - I don't care if they park in front of the house, but don't block the mailbox (or driveway - the idiots like to park across the front of the driveway too).

Re: Parking in front of our house...
i grew up with a dad that HATES this, he also HATES if you do it to his neighbors, so... i have gotten the trait as well. Do yourself a favor... make your car BIG.
that is, park smack in the middle.
Greenfreak - what would PIZZ me off more is the parking wrong ways. i wish cops would give tickets for little things like this. all of the counties would make a MINT if they ticketed all these little annoyances!!!

They do give tickets for that. Just report him and say that there is a car you don't know who it belongs to and it's facing the wrong way.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
Our neighbors park in front of our house all of the time - even though the space in front of their house is free. I know in my mind-it is a free street, I have no legal claim blah blah blah-but it still bothers me.
I would never say anything-b/c like I said-it is a free street. But if DH is in the driveway and I have to park in the street behind them, I'll pull up real close to their car. I am a b!tch.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
this is why i am SO GLAD that the community we are moving to doesn't allow street parking....every house has room for 4 cars (2 car garage and driveway) and then there is a parking lot down the block at the community center for guest parking....now i'll have one less thing to get annoyed at my neighbors for

Re: Parking in front of our house...
We just moved into our house, and our neighbors have 4 cars and live on the turn, so they don't have a whole lot of space. But after a day or two, they started parking their pick up truck directly in front of the house. They left it there the whole weekend when the driveway was completely empty. The next time we saw them outside, we just asked, do you always park your car here? They apologized and moved it. I think they were just testing us to see if we'd be okay with it staying there. We worked so hard to have a house, i dont want to look out the window and see someone else's pick up truck everyday.

That would irk me.
I would be passive aggresive and keep my cars parked in front of my house so he couldn't park there.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
This drives me crazy !!!!
My neighbor has three cars AND her kids always have their friends over so our street gets crowded ! I want to park in front of my own &?$#@% house....so whenever possible i'd squeeze in front & pull so close to their car that I wind up trapping one of them in I guess having to move their car so the other person can get out taught them a lesson, cause they don't park in front of my house anymore.
I just vent to DH, I'd never actually say anything because I don't want them to complain when we have parties lol

Re: Parking in front of our house...
I think we all have one like this.
I live down a long driveway that is shared by two other houses. each one of our houses has it's own regular driveway. One house has 3 generations living there and 5 cars. Their driveway holds all of the cars but since they go in and out and different times they park on the long driveway and block the other neighbor's mailbox. It also makes the long driveway very narrow when pulling in.
They had a broken down car parked in that spot for 2 years and never moved it!

Re: Parking in front of our house...
We were in this exact situation. Even when we were moving in, this guy across the street insisited on having his car in front of our house, instead of in front of his own or in his driveway.
I finally had to say something. Sorry but I pay taxes too, and I also pay for a landscaper, who will do a skimpy job if a car is there. Also why should I miss out on the streetsweeper when they come around?
My neighbor didn't like that i asked. And I am sure a few others got wind of it and may not have liked it either, b/c they are just as rude. But he did listen, however, yes, it could not go over so well. I can understand if you have no where else to park, but when you can park in front of your own home or driveway, then it's plain rude and you should be called on it. JMO But yes, it could start a war b/c if they are rude enough to do it, they are rude enough to take it one step further IMO.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
Yes this would infuriate me. I hate when people do that. I even feel guilty when we have guests over and they park in front of the neighbors house.
Thankfully we have a fire pump in front of our house, so we dont have that problem- and our driveway is big enough for both of us to park.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
I am in the minority I guess.
This would not bother me.
In my opinion, that is what the street is for!
I could careless if my neighbor parks in front of my house.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
Unless you usually park on the street in front of your house, I don't see what the issue is.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
This would annoy me. I just don't understand why someone would park in front of someone else's house when they have room in their driveway AND in front of their own home? I could see if there was no room on the street...but it seems like they don't want to see it in front of their home so lets just block someone elses view.

I lived in the city for 6 years and I thought when we bought a house a year ago I would be like you and not care about this. But it irks me b/c I spent 6 years driving around for hours looking for parking spots. Now I feel like I have "paid" to have that spot available to me and my guests (even though I know I don't own the street)

I lived in Queens my whole life until 3 years ago. I always parked in front of other houses.
Now that I am a home owner I have bigger things to worry or stress over then where my neighbor parks their car.

I meant no harm. I have learned when I moved to Long Island this idea of no one parking in front of your house is a long island thing....... it just amazes me.

Re: Parking in front of our house...
This is one of those things that would bother me even though I know it shouldn't. It's not my street, anyone could park there, yada, yada, yada...but if I lived in a house where street parking was plentiful, I would like the option of parking in front of my house.
