Part vent Part many questions Part WWYD - Finding a babysitter?
For the first 7 months of DS' life he has been a perfect angel. The easiest baby ever actually I had no problem taking him anywhere, he'd be content to sit in his infant carrier in the snap and go and play with his toys. Whenever he fussed, it was always for a reason. That being said, these last two weeks have been an absolute horror. Yes, he's teething...yes, he's in that, "i cant crawl or walk or get around, but I WANT to" phase. He does not want to be in the swing, he does not want to be in the exersaucer, he does not want to be in the jumperoo, he honestly doesnt want to sit on the floor and play with his toys either....he appears bored out of his mind. He wants me to pick him up and BRING him to things. He is also a squirmy little thing...he practically leaps out of my arms. that being said, my parents took me and DH out for dinner for my birthday tonight and DS was in rare form. DH and I took turns bringing him outside. I have come to grips with the fact that I need to find a babysitter but have no idea how to go about doing it. My parents watch DS three days a week while I work and are pretty accomodating on the other days if I need them to watch him for an hour or two but other than them, there is no other family that can watch him. None of my friends have children so I do not have any recommendations from them. I am left with the interviewing a a stranger route. What should I be looking for...do I put an ad on craigslist? Put up a flyer in a supermarket? All these things make my stomach queasy. On top of it, DH has just told me that he doesnt want a stranger in his house. Isnt that how a babysitter works? They come to the house for a couple of hours while you go out? i am also out of the loop with regard to how much babysitting costs. I am not lookign for anything consistant...just if DH and I want to go some place...not even sure it would be once a month...back to the DH comment....I feel less weird about a stranger in my hosue than I do with dropping him off AT a strangers house...how the heck does anyone find a babysitter?

Where do you live? I don't have a license or anything, but I do have a 4 month old DS. LOL Do you know anyone on here that would be able to help you out? I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving my DS with a complete stranger either... in my house OR at their house.. that's just me. But you can always get to know some girls on here at GTGs possibly, and then ask if they can do it. How often will you need?

WOW...Do you have my kid? It must be the teething. DS is the same age and does the same thing. Today I had to bribe my Mom to watch him while I ran to Target. It is hard finding a babysitter. Maybe you could put something up at your local library. Or if you know someone who uses a babysitter you could ask them. I used to be a Nanny so I know how it is to find the right childcare provider. As for the going rate now. Anywhere between 8-10 dollars is fair to me. Good luck and I hope both our DS outgrow this phase quickly!

I have not had that problem....but I noticed at my library they have a "mother's helper" program. Maybe you can find a baby sitter there.

Re: Part vent Part many questions Part WWYD - Finding a babysitter?
Where are you located?
Call your local HS Guidence office. i know our school has a childcare class that DH's cousin took. They might be able to recommend someone.
Also talk to neighbors who have kids. Some may have teens looking to babysit or some may have a sitter they can recommend.
Personally for your situation I would look for a teenager because its just the occassional night out. Also with that, if your DH and you are going out I would prefer having my DS at home so he would be comfy and possibly asleep when I get home.
Another option to get "used" to a new sitter, have them come a few times as a mothers helper so you can show them the ropes, see how they interact with DS etc. Then you will feel more comfortable leaving him with them when you go out.

I'd also check the library. A lot of them offer babysitter certification courses.
