Paternity leave for NYC teachers
Does anyone know what kind of leave is available, if any, for fathers who are teacher in NYCBOE? The union person who explains all this stuff at his school hasn't been available.

Email Karla Jordan at the UFT. She runs the maternity leave workshops and would probably know more than the average union rep.

DH asked his payroll secretary and she believes that there isn't one. but they "allow" 5 days off (can use his bank I believe, not 100% sure).
does anyone ever get a straight ansewr from the DOE?

FMLA covers dads too (at least at my workplace). You don't get paid anything though.

Can you let me know if she replies to you? My hubby is a NYC DOE teacher and he wants to take some days off once we have the baby but I'm wondering if he has to use his banked sick days.

I knew someone that had their baby over the summer, took their 12 weeks FMLA after that, and then their husband took his 12 weeks after that. Not sure if it was NYC though. They had almost a whole year off with the baby!

He probably does. DOE moms have to use their sick days to get paid on their maternity leave; I'd imagine the rules are the same for dads.

I beleive there is. DH and I are both DOE employees I was told that if we both wanted to take it we would have to spilt FMLA!
