Pathology Report after D&C
So I called the doctors office today to see if my results had come back and I spoke to the girl in the office not the doctor. She said the results were what they would expect and there was nothing out of the ordinary but they did not check for a chromosome abnormality.
I suppose the doctor might have a better explanation but I am not seeing her for another 3 weeks.
Did you get your results and can you share any of the details?
TIA

Re: Pathology Report after D&C
Mine said "normal pregnancy tissue" and that was it. She said nothing to worry about. I wish I had answers but I dont and I was bleeding on my own alot prior to the D&C.
Can you call back and ask to speak to the dr? 3 weeks is a long time to wait!

Re: Pathology Report after D&C
With mine I had two reports. The first was from the hospital. I hate to be graphic but it said something like "products were consistent with a first trimester miscarriage" and I think it described the fetal tissue :( I assume the pathologist at the hospital will check it before they send it to the lab for the karyotype testing. The karyotype testing is where they grow the cells to check for any chromosome abnormality. For me, all that report read was 46xx which means a normal female. It takes a few weeks for chromosome testing to be complete so you may have just gotten the first part of your results which were from the lab at the hospital. I remember calling a few times to check on the status of the karyotype and my sample was still growing. It took about 3-5 weeks.

Re: Pathology Report after D&C
I'm actually confused by this.
If the results were normal but they didn't check for a chromosomal abnormality what did they check for?? usually when you get results where there's a reason for the mc it's due to some sort of chromosomal abnormality... so i don't get being tested and not having that part tested.
I would call back and leave a message for the dr. to have him call you back.
It's one thing if they did genetic testing and results came back normal... meaning there was no chromosomal abnormality or any other abnormality... but to say they didn't test for that aspect...
I got results and it was trisomy 21 and they not only told me the chromosomal issue but also the percentage of how likely it was to have happened. Trisomy 21 is compatible with life so all it all it wasn't the cause of the mc.. but probably a factor.

this makes more sense.. if they are testing in 2 parts and they are waiting on the 2nd part.
for me the results took over 6 weeks to come in. and even then I had to call to find out what the results were. (I called at the 8week mark though). The nurse wouldn't even speak to me about my results.. they had to have a dr call me back to go over the information with me.

Sorry this happened to you

Re: Pathology Report after D&C
I didn't "see" my report, but my doctor read it to me and answered any questions I had.
We basically already knew the most likely reason for my loss so I wasn't expecting much from the report. I did find out I had at least one genetically healthy girl (I thought I'd get the genders of all 3, but apparently they only test one piece of tissue, so I don't know if that was from the idenitcals or singleton).

Re: Pathology Report after D&C
I got my results. I had to specifically ask right before the procedure for the genetic testing or they would not have done it. My doctor said they could because it was my second miscarriage but his partner who did the procedure said they do it for 3rd miscarriage. Either way I got my results but if i had not specifically requested it it would not have been done. A pathology report will be done (separate from genetic testing) for any d&c this is standard. That states what the results of the d&C was. If you want you can fm and I will give you more details of the results I got.

Dr B said different things to me regarding this. That's why he wanted to run additional testing on me as well.
