Someone wants to buy my husband's car but wants to pay through pay pal. We've never used it before. Is it trustworthy?

Me too....I have also used it to collect money. Just keep in mind that PP takes 4% of the money you get so add that to the price for the person buying it. He should bare that expense, not you.

I have used it and my checking acct was hacked into...so just be careful.
My DH uses it all the time, and hasnt had any problems.

i use it all the time but i would def check your paypal account and make sure the funds have been released to your account before handing over the keys just to be safe

No no no to paypal for buying a car. Trust me.
And I trust paypal. But not for cars. Lots of scams. Even if you get the money first they can file a CC chargeback and then take you to collections.

I would NEVER accept paypal for a car. You have to show proof of shipping, with a tracking number to be protected by paypal. So essentially the buyer could pay with paypal, pick up the car, and then file a chargeback saying they never go it, and you can't show proof of it being delivered with a tracking number so you are screwed. Run far away.

I've used paypal and i trust it to a certain extent, but not enough to have it linked to my regular money. I opened a free checking account with Capitol One that has only a $50 min with no fees, etc. It's not connected to any of my regular money or savings, so I paypal out of that.
And a car..well, I don't know if I would want a record of such a high purchase..get a money order or bank check.

agreed. I use paypal for my business and never had an issue in 7+years; however for a car..I would not be sending that much money via paypal, or accepting it.

Do not accept bank checks. They are a huge scam too with fake ones.
I would only take cash.

Same thing happened to me. Now if I have to pay through paypal I use a credit card.
