Paying the hospital bill for the delivery
So I have a 2500.00 deductible...I get a hospital bill for 1800.00. I don't pay the first one, I wanted to see if anything was still pending from insurance.
I get second notice, I put it aside, it was going to hurt to write the check and I did not want that day wrecked.
Third notice...They take off 187.00 as a "courtesy" and an additonal 640.00 as Administrative Benefit  Leo can't sleep if there is an unpaid bill in the house, so I really had not metioned this yet. I tell him that its down to about 900.00 at this point, he is in shock and asks me to call and just pay it.
I called, and guess what? I was in pre-collections..the guy says do you want a payment plan? I said maybe, how much per month? He says pay what you can, but if you can make full payment over phone today, I can work something out. He took off another 130.00!
so my hospital is paid. Moral is...don't pay hospital bill on first notice

The sad part about it is how much they mark these things up!!!!! I always say doesn't hurt to ask!

Sorry to hear that but glad they lowered the bill for you....my delivery and hospital stay was covered fully by my insurance (Oxford) with no deductible, but had it not been, it would've cost close to 40k (I saw all the claims)... I feel bad for ppl with no insurance at all !

Glad you got it lowered.
Also always check your EOB. I have been charged for stuff I shouldn't!!

Always call and negotiate..
When my eldest was born we got a bill for about $1000..we were newly married and in our early 20s..when i called to set up a payment plan I just happened to mention the women on the phone our "status" and she said just send them a letter asking them to excuse the bill...they did!!!!
I mean really they were paid enough from the insurance company...!!!!
Just make sure you keep all of your medical receipts as having a baby that first year can be expensive and you can claim such medical expenses on your taxes!!!!!
