PCOS

So I stopped taking birth control pills in Dec 2012. I have always know I have PCOS. Now I am not overweight by much. 147lbs at 5'3. I do exercise and follow a healthy diet but can NEVER lose weight.
I have followed a gluten free diet since January 2014.

In this time, with all my changes (gluten free, exercise, healthy food- however i could definitely eat MUCH healthier), I have no been able to ovulate/ get my period regularly. I am still experiencing PCOS symptoms severely.
I plan to get pregnant within the next 2 years and be ready to actively try within 2 years.
For the time being, I was thinking of going back on the pill because my cysts are causing severe pain. And during that time, focus on losing weight (as I do when I'm on the pill), and just focusing on me.

Do you think it is ok to be on the pill and try and lose some weight and then come off when I'm ready to try, or do you think I should stay off the pill and try harder?

My doctor doesn't seem too concerned and his response was there is always medication. While i love my gyn, I am EXTREMELY opposed to using fertility treatment (this is personal and NOT a negative to anyone who does. It has helped millions of women, however, it is not for me).

I was just hoping for some insight into others opinions/ stories of others with PCOS/ success.

Re: PCOS

I have PCOS and like you- have changed my lifestyle- i started doing the gluten free and dairy free route but I couldn't keep up with it so I do it now but not religiously. I did get pregnant but it was through IVF 3 years ago. If you follow PCOS DIVA she will give you A LOT of insight on what supplements and vitamins to take to help with ovulation. i tried and it didn't work for me. I wanted to get pregnant the "natural" way as well and started a lot of supplements and changes but in the end the fact that I came off the pill brought back a lot of my symptoms (acne, depression, anxiety, weight gain) and I didn't feel like myself so I went back on the pill. It's really a personal preference and how you feel. Good luck! I definitely know what you are going through though!!
