peanut allergy

Is there a test a child must take to see if they are allergic to peanuts?
if so, when is it preformed?
DS is 10 months old.

Re: peanut allergy

no test that I know of, I offered her PB at 15 months and she had no reaction. If there is a history of Peanut allergies in your family, I would wait longer than that Chat Icon

Re: peanut allergy

I don't think they typically test for allergies unless your DC has aa reaction with a particular food. Peanuts aren't really recommended until 2, so I would imagine they wouldn't test at 10 months.

Yes. My son had peanut butter on a cracker when he was about 11 months old and had a reaction around his mouth. My ped said don't give it to him again and she tested him at 2 years old, when they did his blood work.

Do peanut allergies (or any kind of food allergies) run in your family?

Because of DD1's severe food allergies, DD2 was tested at 6 months old. Came back positive so we avoid and carry an epi pen for her too.

They can do a skin prick test, as well as blood work.

DH and my MIL are allergic to peanuts and chocolate.
but DS had some chocolate and knock on wood, he was fine. I will wait on the peanuts , its too scarey to test out - i had wanted to give him peanut butter and jelly.
