Pediatric Dentist (without insurance)

DS is 3 and never been to the dentist. I made an appt today for a local ped dentist and was quoted $210 for the cleaning, floride treatment, etc.

I don't have insurance so this would be out of pocket. Does this seem right?

If you wait until after 1/1, your medical plan should cover it as a result of ACA.

I don't think this is true. Most of the plans offered in exchange don't even offer dental.

Due to ACA - as of 1/1/14, most Americans will be required to have dental plans for their children.

It can be offered in a variety of ways - through the medical plan, through your current dental plan, or as a stand alone Essential health benefit plan.

I'm assuming that since the PP doesn't have dental coverage, it will be in the health plan.

OP I would call the Stony Brook Dental School, it's probably cheaper. They are great, they have pediatric dentists and are very patient. My son goes there to their pediatric special needs department. They take our insurance though, so I'm not sure of the cost.

I use Dr. Mindy Homer in Manhasset and pay $150 (without insurance) for all you described.

I agree. Plus, you can also decide to see one of the faculty members instead of a resident in the dental faculty practice which is also located inside the school of dental medicine.

Phone for faculty practice is 631-632-8971

Phone for dental care center/graduate pediatric clinic is 631-632-8889

Re: Pediatric Dentist (without insurance)

we have edp for dental. its a dental plan. it saves 25% off what pediatric dentist charge.
DD just had to get a filling done at kidsmile in dp but she got her cleaning with my hygienist.
kidsmile charges i think 175 (before discount) and my dentist with the plan came to 50.
the plan has def paid for itself.
if anyone is interested in joining fm and ill give you my name-as i will get credit if you join. I sure can use it.Chat Icon
