Pediatrician Question
I am delivering at Good Sam, my Ob is in West Islip, and I live in Holbrook. Now my OB suggested I find a DR close to home. But one of my friends today told me (she delivered at good sam too) that you have to choose a Dr affiliated with the hospital you deliver at so that the dr can check out the baby at the hospital. Is this true? I don't really want to be driving my child to West Islip for well visits, much less in emergencies.

Re: Pediatrician Question
you do want a Dr that has "rights" at the hospital where you will be delivering. Finding one near Holbrook that will deliver at Good Sam might be an issue....

Re: Pediatrician Question
That's not usually true. If the dr. you choose is not affiliated with the hospital where you deliver, a pediatrician there will check over the baby and then when you leave the hospital you take the baby to your regular pediatrician. It's very common especially if you don't deliver that close to where you live.

I Aree! My pediatrician was not affiliated with my hospital...a pediatrician there checked my daughter and about 2 days after coming home I went to our DR.
