Pedicures and manicures?
I had a pedicure on Friday and they massaged my feet. My girlfriend then told mne that she read or heard somewhere that it can bring on contractions. So I went to "WHat to Expect...." amd sure enough it said not to have your feet and ankles massaged or the webbing between your thumb and forefinger because it does bring on contractions. I am curious if anyone else has heard about this and abides by it???

While talking to my OB about the dos and donts during preg. he said: "People come up with the silliest things, once a preg. lady said she heard having your feet rubbed could bring on labor.... if that was true... Id have alot of women rubbing their feet in my waiting room!"
I think being relaxed could help bring you into labor... but not to the point where its going to put you into premature labor!
I had a pedicure once a week while preg. and I NEVER went into labor...

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
My DH has been giving me a ton of foot massages lately. I wonder if they have anything to do with me being so diolated and effaced weeks before I'm due!

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I have read somewhere that they can bring on contractions. I usually just tell them not to massage my feet. You never know...

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I heard it was the pressure points in your feet that cause you to contract. I don't know how true it is.

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
My doctor also said that people make up the silliest things. I have had manicures, pedicures and an acupressure massage in my pregnancy and no labor. I woudln't worry.

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I think that having pedis and manis are essential when you are pregnant. ESPECIALLY when they rub your feet.. that's just silly.

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I am getting so sick and tired of all these silly things about the do's and dont's of Pregnancy. It's driving me nuts and I keep calling my doctors office with the silliest questions ever...LOL
I heard no cold cuts. I called my doctor's office yesterday and they said it was ok. I mean a person can just go plain nuts with all these silly rules.
I got a pedicure a few weeks ago. A city spa one where they massage your feet and bottom part of your legs. DH gave me a $100 certificate for christmas and I plan to use it well...LOL...I still have money left on it...LOL

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
The cold cut thing is "partially" true.. so long as you get cold cuts from a reputable place where the temp remains the same, then it's okay.. (but let's get real, who's going to get a sandwich and a shady deli? lol )

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I haven't had a sandwich in like 3 months. So when I got the ok from my doctor, I finally had one last night. But I won't be eating one everyday though either.

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
i would be more worried about breathing in the fumes in a poorly ventilated salon over getting my feet rubbed.

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I just got a manicure & pedicure yesterday and this morning I was at the hospital 2 cm dilated and having contractions! But, seriously I don't think it was the foot massage that did it. It actually seems like the last few times I've gone they've hardly massaged my feet at all. Maybe they have heard the rumor too!

Re: Pedicures and manicures?
I am a Massage Therapist/Reflexologist and while you SHOULD be careful of who is giving you the pedicure (make sure they are licensed), just know these pressure points are powerful, but not THAT powerful. If you are worried, just tell the Nail Tech to do light massage on your feet/hands and you will be fine! There is no need to skip these pampering treatments- especially when you are pregnant!!! Go to a reputable place and ENJOY!!!
