Pencil Skirt- What kind of top?
So I have a black pencil skirt that I bought one day and I've never worn. It still has tags on it. Then I saw a GREEN pencil skirt today and I want it. BAD. I tried it on and it fits like a glove and looks pretty good if I do say so myself. But the reason I've never worn the other pencil skirt is I don't know what to wear with it. I've gotten a few tops that I thought for sure would go well but NOPE! I was wrong. I even looked on pinterest for inspiration, but I've tried tops like those and they just looked wrong on me. Is it me? Is it the tops? What am I doing wrong here?
ETA: I tried a look like this and I dunno, it just didn't look right to me. Maybe the top wasn't loose enough?
ETAA: I've also tried this, a kind of blouson tank and again NOPE!

Someone posted this top in the "show us your recent purchases" thread and I thought it would go.

Something that is NOT flowy, but rather pretty close ot the body. In the winter, I like to wear a gray pencil skirt with a thin black turtleneck that I either tuck into the skirt or leave over it.

I don't know your body type, but I cannot wear any tops tucked in because I have big boobs and no waist - if I do that I am ALL boob, no waist, and two legs
Look for a top like WhatNow posted, something fitted but not too fitted on top, and don't tuck it in. That may fit better.

I agree with not tucking it in, especially if you have a high waist and/or large breasts. The only time I do, is if it is a fitted tank, and I am wearing a cardigan with it.

Re: Pencil Skirt- What kind of top?
I just wore one last night with a fitted tank and cardigan on top, like the PP suggested. That's basically the only thing I wear with it, because nothing else seems to work!

Re: Pencil Skirt- What kind of top?
Hmmm I've always tried the tuck, maybe that's my problem? Though big boobs are NOT an issue for me. Exactly the opposite! Ughh I have to go to a wake tonight and I don't think I have anything else to wear really- we've had funerals and wakes to attend for the past two weekends so most of my stuff is in the dry cleaners. I do have a black cardigan with a little pearl flower on the shoulder that might work. I never thought to pair them. Cross your fingers it looks okay or else I'm wearing what I have on now.
