People are pigs! LIRR related
going home on Friday I took the 4:24. Why oh why does the train from LI come in with crap everywhere? McDonald's bags, french fries, beer bottles. The train smeels gross and I had to personally clean my seat. I only got a seat because I get to the train 20 minutes early to make sure.
Then this morning, the same non commuters who left the city on Friday for the weekend are sitting in seats with their feet up on the seats or curled up on a 3 seater with the feet and luggage next to them. I'm not even going to get into the IPOD issue.
Me and my clean work clothes do not want to be near that seat now that you've put your dirty shoes all over them. The trains are a germ infested carnivale to begin with, let's make it extra special because I know those flip flops you are wearing were all over some bar floor all weekend.
grrr...

it's not me..why can't people be civilized?
I don't put my dirty shoes on my furniture and I don't leave trash around my car or living room.

I agree with you that people are pigs BUt you have to realize that not everyone lives like you. So you can either deal with the slobs or get aggravated every day. I ride the LIRR everyday also so I know where you are coming from but Personally, I would just suck it up and deal with it.....life it too short to be annoyed at others...

I don't think it's asking too much for people to pick up their crap and keep their feet off the seats.
It's common courtesy and I have every right to be annoyed by it. It's disgusting how some people act towards others and disregard rules.

Geeze, I ride the LIRR every day, too, and sometimes you just have to vent. Some people feel the need to vent frequently. I agree that it's disgusting and poeple take no pride in themselves or their surroundings. People also have no respect for others. Do I get bent out of shape about it on a day to day basis? No. But it bothers me, so I understand why someone would want to complain about it.

As long as you know it's a big IF  I used to email about things like quiet cars, ticket takers saying something to the obnoxious riders, etc. It gets you no where. I long ago decided to ignore it - I stopped givng those people that kind of power over me that they effect chunks of my day.
I am not interested in taking the express bus, bus/subway or driving so I make the best of what I can of the LIRR. It's less expensive then driving & the express bus - takes a whole lot less time then any of my other options, and it's a short time of my day.
Good luck! I hope you make more progress with the LIRR powers that be then I did.

I tried the proactive route and found the LIRR to be apathetic so now I just go about my day.

I agree with you! Big lack of common courtesy and people who act like that or defend that kind of behavior probably live like that as well. It isnt too much to ask to get your feet down...sorry.

My sister used to have to take the train everyday and I would pick her up. The stories she had were aweful. I say bring a couple of ziploc bags and clorox wipes and disposable gloves. When you make someone move their feet make a big spectical of putting on throw away gloves and cleaning the seat then double bag the cleaning cloth while making noises of severe disgust while doing it. It may not solve the problem but next time that person may think about it before putting his/her feet up. Maybe not but hey it's an idea. Sorry you have to ride with such slobs

This morning, I was sitting in the aisle seat of a two-seater row. A girl gets on and wants the window seat. She says "excuse me" and I go to get up. She doesn't move. She stands there blocking the aisle so I can't get up. Then she goes "EXCUSE ME!" again. I said (nicely), "I'm trying to get up for you, but you're blocking the aisle."
She finally moves. I get up and she sits down. She then proceeds to pick her nails the entire way into the city.
