People who bring their pets into the store
Ok, I love animals... LOVE them! BUT... it has never crossed my mind to bring them to the store with me, ever. Maybe I am missing something, but seriously, what is the point?
Last month, I was in the bagel store and someone was online behind me with their dog. Gross! I love dogs but seriously, a bagel store? Leave your dog home, that is so unnecessary. The bagels are all out in the open and the only thing covering the cream cheese and salads is the glass. I don't want dog fur all over my food, and I don't know how clean your dog is. People are also allergic to animals and don't have a choice to be around them if you bring them to the store.
Also last month, someone had their dog in Stop N Shop!!! And it wasn't in a carrier or they weren't holding them, IT WAS ON A LEASH WALKING AROUND THE STORE! It wasn't a service pet, it was some guy that spends more money on his clothes and hair products then I do who probably only had it because it's now fashionable to have little dogs with diamond collars.
And just last week, some lady had her mini dog with her AT SUBWAY! Seriously, you can't go to Subway without bringing your dog with you!?
Those of you who own little dogs, do you bring them to the store with you? If so, why? And how come people are okay with this? What would happen if people brought their cats or pit bulls and labs with them to store? Why isn't that okay?

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
no ive never once even thought about bringing my dog into a store... well maybe like petco or something but they are allowed there.... most stores do not want/allow pets that are not in carriers to be in the store....

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
WHAT? stop and shop?? thats crazy... the only types of dogs i've seen in a supermarket are the really small ones that can fit into a carrier... in that case, i dont mind it -- but if its a big dog that is sniffing everything (and possibly licking things) then thats gross... and i am a dog owner and LOVE my big dog!

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
Oh no, it wasn't my intention at all to start a debate or heated topic! I'm so sorry... I'm new to the pets board so I didn't realize that it's a topic on here often. It's just that I have been seeing more and more of this lately and was wondering why people feel that this is necessary.
But, I do remember that last year I was at the Sunrise Mall in Pac Sun and someone had their cat with them... yes a cat. And it was on a leash. I also feel that this is unnecessary.

Ah, the "dogs in stores" debate
No, I don't take my dogs into stores with me. And my dogs aren't really super little like chihuahuas or pomeranians or anything, but even if they were, they could stay home. They don't need to help me run my errands.

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
i was always under the impression that this was illegal - especially the food stores. When i worked in a super market when i was a teenager - we asked people to leave that brought their pets - for saniatation reasons and b/c the store didnt want a lawsuit if anyone ever got bit
** i am a small dog owner and dont bring him to stores except petco

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
Here's how I see it...i'd rather have someone take their dog into the store than leave them cooking in the car...out in the Hamptons alot of stores ARE dog friendly & welcome them. (food stores i understand, no, you don't want them there) But honestly any other store I don't see the issue. I've seen people's kids put items from store shelves in their mouths when Mom's not looking & then Mom makes them put it back or they have goobers all over their hands and they are touching everything..now that grosses me out more than a dog
I actually went off on a woman in Bridgehampton who left her dog in the hot sun in a car while she shopped & told her next time take the dog in with you or leave it at home. I wish more places were dog friendly...mine stay home.

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
I have 2 little dogs (chihuahuas) and honestly I would find it an inconvenience to shop with them. You have to either hold them or hold the leash. As far as food stores, if I had to go to the store, I'd leave them home or if I had to bring them, I'd skip the food store. However, I'm ok with people bringing dogs to said dog-friendly restaurants.

I would never bring my dog to a store... there's no reason to. I don't understand the point of it either. What really ticks me off is when people put their dogs in shopping carts... WHERE CHILDREN SIT!!! So unsanitary and should not be allowed IMO.

ditto. no reason to bring them to food stores (but why didn't a worker kick her out??) and absolutely no reason to leave them cooking in the car or tied to a post outside a store where they can be stolen (especially small dogs). Clearly some judgment needs to be exercised here - if you are going into a store that doesn't allow dogs, don't bring the dog. but i will bring my dog everywhere else I can if i want to. i'll bring him shopping with me but i live in the city and everyone brings dogs to the stores. if your dog is well behaved there is no reason why they should not be welcome in a store that doesn't sell food.
kids are dirty too - every mom i know catches their cold from their kids who contract them from other kids. they drool, their noses run, they wipe their noses and then touch the carts, etc etc. obviously dogs are not the same as kids, but kids are not sterile beings who carry no germs.
living near other people mean you have to deal with things you don't necessarily agree wtih or enjoy. it's just life.

Re: People who bring their pets into the store
no way... my dog is home playing with bones and relaxing in the AC.... what true pleasure is the dog getting out of being in a store?? It's more for the owner's piece of mind than the animals IMO.
I was in Banana Republic at the Americana (which is dog friendly) and a huge pit bull being walked by a 100 lb woman and another smaller dog started getting into a growling match... not the best situation for anyone in the store!
I really don't like when people put their dogs in the child section of the cart either - my neighbor has a child that is so allergic to dogs, if it touches anything a dog touches that his hand swells up....
