People who have/had gall bladder issues
So it seems that due to the pregnancy I now have gallstones. I have a sono on Wednesday but I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Last night was not a fun experience - I was in pain most of the night and nothing helped.
I have a few questions:
1. Has anyone been able to control it with diet? What is good/bad to eat and has it helped?
2. If you had the surgery, how was the recovery time? DS is only 4 1/2 months old and I can't stand the thought of being away from him because I have a feeling this is leading to surgery.
Thanks!

Re: People who have/had gall bladder issues
Dh had his out last year. Another LIFer recommended this awesome (and quite hunky) surgeon. The guy was amazing.
DH had a lap surgery and was fine within a day or two but could not lift heavy things for a while. It was outpatient surgery.
FM if you want to know more so I can be sure to answer
Diet cannot control the situation for too long if there are large stones already present.

Re: People who have/had gall bladder issues
I had it done as an emergency when DS was a year old and it was done on my birthday no less. Because of the testing and meds used I had to give up BFing. I could not lift DS for about 2 weeks and personally needed help for about 5 days. Having gone through everything I wish I just scheduled the surgery when I first got the gall stones - just a few months after delivering DS b/c the pain of the acute gall bladder attack was horrible. When I got my surgery I was apparently within 30 minutes of a ruptured gall bladder.

Re: People who have/had gall bladder issues
my mom had this done earlier in the year. she only had 2 attacks but the 2nd one was so bad that she scheduled the surgery right away. she recovered well and is totally fine now!
my grandmother had this done as well after years and years of a modified diet and bad gall stone attacks.
if i were you (and this is obviously my non-medical opinion ) i would not hesitate to just have it taken out.
best of luck

Re: People who have/had gall bladder issues
As everyone else has said, the surgery if done laparoscopicaly is pretty easy and the recovery is pretty quick. In the mean time, it helps to avoid greasy and fatty foods. Once you have had the surgery you feel much better. Good luck!
