pepperoni???
i know its totally gross and bad for you, but does anyone know if you can eat pepperoni and other meats like sopressata (sp?)?? i am a pretty healthy person otherwise but those are my vices... i know about the no deli meats because of the slicer, but what if you just buy the whole log and cut it yourself? lol thanks!

I think its fine. I have been going by the "everything in moderation" mentality.
So go ahead and enjoy those yummy italian meats!! Don't forget to add some delicious cheese!

Re: pepperoni???
everyone seems to makes their own call on these situations - any cooked meat (hot dogs, cold cuts, leftovers in the frig) could harbor bacteria and its recommended to heat it to steaming so you avoid any chance of that.
You have to do what you feel comfortable with. Personally, ive had food poisening before and just couldnt handle that while pregnant so if its not something i want to eat heated i wont do it.

Re: pepperoni???
my doctor said absolutely not. even though I would LOVE some proscuitto and soppressata, I'm staying away.
I guess everyone just goes with what they think is right.

Re: pepperoni???
OBs will tell you no since italian cold cuts are usually not cooked. I have eaten everything throughout this pregnancy, so it's really a matter of what you feel comfy with. I wouldn't recommend eating it everyday, but once in a while won't hurt!

Re: pepperoni???
I don't - unelss it's cooked (Prociutto in vodka saue, pepperoni on pizza)
My OB is pretty laid back, says cold cuts (roast beef, ham, turkey) are fine. But to stay away from the good italian stuff - (He's Italian, as am I ........ )
but i think this is one of those things that every Dr. will have a different opinion about -

agreed. I wouldn't eat it unless it was cooked.

Re: pepperoni???
ever tried fried salami? i love it! try frying the pepperoni...you might like it...and it'll be piping hot so that should handle any bacteria.

Re: pepperoni???
I had asiago soppresata & crackers on Saturday and boy was it yummy.
I will say though I WILL NOT eat it too much, my MIL told me all she ate while preggo with DH was Ricotta & Pepperoni, and he has to take a stomach pill everyday since he was younger, so I tell him thats because she ate a lot of spicy stuff when pregnant with him lol
Whether thats true or not I dunno but thats my conclusion

Re: pepperoni???
I've had it on my pizza twice this whole pregnancy-had the pizza place make it piping hot.
Ummmm it was amazing!!!!!!!!
I've steered clear of all those italian meats this entire pregnancy.
My in laws who are off the boat from Italy are bringing me soppresatta and fresh mozzarella to the hospital after I give birth!

Re: pepperoni???
Yeah, my dr. told me no pepperoni, I asked specifically because Newman's Own Pepperoni pizza is on a bi-weekly dinner rotation with us lol. Sausage she said was ok, just not pepperoni. Bah!
