Perm Sub Position no longer but now on the sub list

DH was a perm sub for almost 4 years this year they got rid of Perm Sub so now he is just on the sub list. Would you go back as just a sub and suck it up for less money or keep looking else where? Also there was a position in his cert but was passed up for someone else that made a phone call to get this other teacher in.

I'm so sorry this happened to your husband :/ I'm waiting to hear if the board approves me going back for my third year as a perm. sub, and my fear is that they will get rid of the position as well. I haven't slept in weeks just worrying about what I'll be doing. I've tried to get on other districts' sub lists but no one is hiring per diems.

I think him getting passed up for a job is common with perm. sub positions. I know in my district they rarely consider us for jobs, no matter how good and well liked we are.

It may be a blessing in disguise for your DH, as he can now pursue other jobs in other districts.

I know very true but as you know other district are they trying to find a needle in a hay stack!! No one is hiring. Just not sure if he should suck up his pride and walk in a sub some days or just pass it up all together and hope and pray something else comes along!!! Thanks for answering my post best of luck to you too! I know the feeling DH is the sameway you are!! It really is ashame!!

Re: Perm Sub Position no longer but now on the sub list

I am in a very similar situation this year and to be honest, it is VERY hard for me to go back to being per diem. It feels demeaning in away (especially after I had my own classroom teaching summer school this past summer). I even considered giving up and going to a different field. I waffled for weeks before DH and I talked it over, and I finally decided to give it one more year. If nothing pops up for next school year, I am going just look for something else. I know it sucks for your DH, but if he really wants to be a teacher, he should stick it out for one more year.

I know but I just feel like next year is going to be worse too for teachers! Plus there are so many unemployed teachers now that his shot is even more slim. He has been looking into other fields but the jobs just arent out there!! This does suck and I do agree with you!! Good Luck

I was a perm sub, left, then came back to subbing per-diem. Once the year progressed I was getting called everyday, got to know teachers in the buildings, etc. Is this in the same district he was a perm. sub in? He might be one of the first to get called anyway.

I'm actually ready to make my exit from teaching. I've been doing this for 4 years and just had a baby. DH and I can't be in this financial flux anymore. My dream has been to teach Kindergarten and I am heartbroken, but I also can't put my life on hold forever. I went to the Hofstra Educators seminar back in June and excessed was every other word I heard. It's so frustrating.

Good luck to your husband! I hope something comes up!

Hi! I feel so badly for him as you know! I would say that he should just go in and sub when they call. Have him get on the lists of a few local districts and he should be able to work everyday or close to it! Chat Icon
