permit for driveway?

We're on a corner lot and would like to add a circle driveway so that we come in/out by the front door rather than our side yard. Do we contact companies first or go to the town and ask for permission first? Also, we have in-ground sprinklers -- does the sprinkler company have to move the lines or would the driveway company do that?

thanks

I think you go to the town first. we tried to do this at my house and the town denied us. they said we did not have a big enough front lawn.

We did a circular driveway, didn't know where to start. Company we used did everything for us and helped us step by step... you can see my pics in my album, Mike from Mike and Marcos 516-867-1830

In the Town of Islip, the driveway can only be a certain percentage of your overall property. I actually had to get a variance for my driveway, since it was a couple of percent too big.. Chat Icon I have a circular driveway

What town are you in? We moved our driveway (corner property as well) from the side of the house to the front and made it a double wide driveway. Our contractor (Island Associates of Massapequa) had their expeditor come over to assess the plans and we moved forward. We needed a curb cut permit from the highways department (TONH), it was easy and quick.

A good contractor will walk you through everything, just ensure you get your permits before work starts.
