Personal Trainer Questions
So i am tired of going to the gym and doing the same routine and seeing no results.
i found a gym that i love. Right now they have a special 5 1/2 hr sessions for $185.00.. is that a good price? sounds reasonable.
i really don't think i can afford to keep up with training for a long time. i was wondering if when you sign up with a trainer if they write down your program somewhere and give it to you so you can do it on your own? for example, upper body 2x a week with the exercises. 3 sets of bicep curls. or chest press machine at X weight with the settings. hope this makes sense. is this normal to ask? sorry this is my first time thinking about it. i really wouldn't mind paying for a few sessions if i can keep up with it on my own long term.
thanks!

Re: Personal Trainer Questions
I was actually just thinking about how much I love my personal trainer but there's no way I can afford to keep buying sessions.
Personally, I think the price you got is good.
My trainer doesn't write down a program for you. I don't think alot of them do. Here's the big reason: they want you to buy more sessions. If you think you know everything you have to do, then you won't buy more sessions. They want to make money.
What you can do is: after each session write down what you did. I've learned alot of new workouts from my PT.

Re: Personal Trainer Questions
I pay a gross amount for my trainer, but she comes to my house, works on nutrition and plans my workout week for me.
I've purchased 30 sessions (1 hour) and it cost 2k, but I don't regret the money spent. I've lost ten pounds since mid november, am becoming cut and my endurance is incredible. I never thought I could push my body the way I do now and I love it.
I think once these sessions are over, I will try working out on my own and purchase occasional sessions from her. I just can't afford another grand right now.
I think with the amount you are paying (which is awesome) you should take a memo pad and pen and write din all the exercises he or she teaches you. You can even ask for help planning your week-- it can't hurt to ask!

Re: Personal Trainer Questions
I get 4 sessions (1 hour sessions) for $200 - so I think the price you have is good if it's 1 hour sessions.
So far, I've purchased 8, and my trainer has developed a program (it alternates every session so you (and your muscles) don't get into a routine.
He's written everything down for me, and I have access to the card whenever I go to the gym. The card has all the exercises/machines, what the settings are (weight / seat movement, etc) as well as the # of reps I have to do. It's like a score card to keep track of everything.
I used to have a "hard time" justifying the cost of a personal trainer, but GOT OVER THAT quickly when I broke it down as follows: - 4 sessions = $200 / 4 = $50 per session - $50 is a meal out in a restaurant - $50 is two mani/pedi sessions
These are the things I'm willing to sacrifice in my life to INVEST in myself and my well being.
A personal trainer is a "luxury" but it's certainly an investment in yourself most importantly.
