Petite girls... maternity clothes?

I'm 15 weeks and probably need to buy maternity clothes already b/c of the belly, but i'm still wearing my bella band with my regular pants unbuttoned (to save $$ and so I don't have to buy maternity stuff so early).

When did you buy maternity clothes, pants specifically? If you bought them around 15-20 weeks did they last you throughout your pregnancy or did you have to go up a size further along? Did you get XS or S or a bigger size so they would last you longer? Thanks.

Re: Petite girls... maternity clothes?

I didn't have to wear maternity pants until about 30 weeks - And I still wear my bella band over them to hold them up -

My advice, DO NOT buy a size bigger, especially if you are a small girl -

Thanks for the advice.

I'll have to check out old navy! Gap never really fit me right before pregnancy so i'm not sure how their maternity stuff is but i'll check them out too.

Before I had my DS I was 115lbs and 5'1". I got clothes at Motherhood Maternity - they were really inexpensive so I didn't mind buying new things. I also was still able to wear all of my sweatsuits (especially the bottoms) until the end since they landed right below my belly.

I honestly think that you can probably get away with the rest of the winter with what you have, and then in the summer be able to buy some cute capris and short sleeve things! Chat Icon

I live in FL so it's summer all yr round. Chat Icon I think with work pants I can get away with the bella band for at least another month, but my jeans (even unbuttoned and zipped down all the way) are just getting way too tight!

Re: Petite girls... maternity clothes?

I bought jeans and pants from Mimi Maternity, Gap, Old Navy. These places all have pants in short.I bought smalls, and they have fit me till the end. The only pants that don't fit me are my Gap jeans. I got a half panel jean and they fit perfect when I had a small belly, around where you are now. They fit up until about 25 weeks, then I had to start wearing full panel pants/jeans. You are smaller then me, so you might do better in an XS.

As for shirts, I had a problem getting the right size in the beginning. I actually bought non-maternity shirts in Medium. Which fit me almost till the end. Once I hit around 25 weeks the maternity shirts started fitting me the way they should.

I will tell you that the more expensive jeans and shirts fit much better. I have a pair of Mavi Maternity jeans I got from Mimi and they fit the best. The desginer jeans are more fitted to your body. The mimi brand fits well too. I found Motherhood clothes to be very big on me. They didn't start fitting me until the end.

Hope this helps!! Buy the way I'm 5'1".
So you know how short I am.

I wore a bella band in the beginning as well. I'm carrying all in my belly and the band started getting way to uncomfortable. I bought materinty jeans around 15 weeks.

Re: Petite girls... maternity clothes?

Thanks Allison! I've heard that the more expensive maternity jeans fit better like Joe's and Mavi, i'm just torn if I should buy them now or try to wait a while. I don't want to buy them and then have them not fit by 30 weeks! But I guess there's really no way to predict how big i'll be so I have to suck it up and just buy them. Chat Icon

As for shirts, I have a lot of long shirts that will fit fine for a while, but I do need some button-downs and more dressy shirts for work. Lots of people have been mentioning Old Navy so i'll have to check them out.

I wouldn't worry to much about not fitting into the jeans later in the PG. I gained a decent amount of weight and I still fit in the same size. Though at 38 weeks, things are starting to get snug. Go buy one pair of jeans. You won't believe how great they will feel.

Re: Petite girls... maternity clothes?

I got short pants at Maternity work at the Source Mall.

I bought a size M for the tops and so far I am still in them at 26 weeks.. But... I think I may need to go up a size in a month or so. Not sure.

As for pants.. I just got my reg. size and I have been fine with them. I gained a bunch of my weight in my belly though.. some in the butt and thighs but not too much. Don't be surpised if you get your reg. pants size and they feel a big baggy.. They will fit soon enough. Chat Icon
