From NYPD's FB page:
Jennifer Foster of Florence, AZ was visiting Times Square with her husband Nov. 14 when they saw a shoeless man asking for change. She writes, “Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him. The officer said, ‘I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man. The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching*. I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer’s name. It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared.”

?'Tis the season of giving! An NYPD officer from Long Island is gaining national fame for helping a homeless man. Officer Larry DePrimo, of Holbrook, can be seen in a picture giving a barefoot homeless man a pair of all-weather boots. The NYPD posted the picture below on its Facebook page. The picture was snapped earlier this month by a tourist in Times Square and has gone viral.

What a beautiful story. With all the horrible stories and news, its things like this that help to restore my faith in humanity
I tend to view many NYPD negatively so this warmed my heart.

AND I'm crying - between last night (I was at a memorial, unrelated to anything but I was sobbing at it) but between that and right now, I think Aunt Flo must be on her way - I'm WAY too emotional 
What a beautiful story - reminds me of something Kenneth or so many other officers I know would do. It's nice to see a positive story getting national attention. It's the perfect time of year for it, too!
And hubba how cute is the officer, by the way?! LOL!

The day I saw this photo I had a dream that I was walking down the street and saw the whole thing, even the guy stopping to take a photo w/ his phone. To me it was like my dream told me that this really did happen.

Hmmmm, I was wondering about that. I found it odd that he's sitting outside a shoe store. I wonder if other people have done the same thing....

I thought to myself I wonder if the man will even wear the shoes bc he'll think people won't give him money if he has new shoes on. Sometimes they don't want to be seen with clean / new clothes bc then people will think they don't need the money as badly OR alot of times their posessions get stolen as they sleep OR they sell them for the $

IDK, based on comments here I still don't get why he gets extra credit because he is NYPD. The act of kindness alone is enough. If it was a regular person would it have made it less of a good deed?? Why does the fact that he is NYPD make it any different? Help me understand.

I have seen this man many times. I know people who have bought him shoes before but within a few weeks he was shoeless again. I wonder what happens?
This officer did a great thing for him though. It has been so cold outside I cannot imagine being outside with no shoes and socks.
