This is why I love my boys in Blue.. Its all too often we are hearing so many negative things about Police officers, wether it be a death or just plain bashing of them all together ...
Its nice to see someone FINALLY spreading the word about ALL the good they all do !!!!

I would be so terribly sad to find out the man took them off or got rid of the shoes.
When I give to a person begging, I do always wonder, "What if they will go buy drugs or alcohol with that money?" but then I have to just let it be and believe that I did someone a kindness.
I can't let the what if's affect my generosity.

This is my best friends brother. I've known him since he was a kid and he truly is a genuinely good hearted person. Couldn't be any more proud.

IDK, based on comments here I still don't get why he gets extra credit because he is NYPD. The act of kindness alone is enough. If it was a regular person would it have made it less of a good deed?? Why does the fact that he is NYPD make it any different? Help me understand.
I think it means much more. He sees crime everyday. He sees bad things, horrible things, everyday. He is probably working, a very stressful job at that, and still has the heart and kindness to care. I think it goes above and beyond for that reason.

I see what you are saying, and after reading the posts again I realize that cops get a bad rap in the news. I also read the NYTimes article and think that for a 25 yo kid in this day and age to give $75 (both because of his income and bec. a generation known to be selfish or part of the "me" gen) is commendable!

I dont think he is getting any 'extra credit'. I think it's a nice human interest story and a story of kindness regardless of who it was who bought those boots.
The woman who snapped the pic is in law enforcement herself and maybe she feels that cops get a bad rap so she wanted to show an example of a good egg.
Not to mention, rookie cops in the NYPD don't make a lot of money at all- so for him to spend $75 on boots for a stranger- that was pretty darn nice!

I'm not surprised. Homeless people are generally mentally ill, if I saw him I would guess that he was NOT wearing shoes not because he couldn't find a pair but because he doesn't want to. There are charities all over town that he could have gotten a pair from!
However, this shoes the innocence of the 25yo officer which is sweet.
