physicals
Do the children need to get a physical each year? My son needed one to enter kindergarten but don't have any info about first grade. Is it required every year?

Re: physicals
No, not until they start to play school sports. Your ped should know when they are required. They are usually up-to-date on what districts require what immunizations, etc for each year.
I don't know what your health ins. situation is, but most insurances cover one "well visit" per year free of charge. I always did them anyway. Also, districts do have a dr come in and do physicals usually in Oct for students who need them and didn't get them.

Re: physicals
I don't know if it varies by district but my children must get a form filled out by their doctor each year before school starts. They get a check up where the doc listens to their heart, charts their growth, looks in their ears, nose and throat, etc.. then they get shots when they are due. It's every year and it's a pain in the patoot because the doctor is SWAMPED from July-September with parents who need that form completed!

Re: physicals
I also get one each year, it is covered by insurance and I like to see their stats, also it might be the only time I get to see the dr during the year (for my oldest one who never gets sick).
I don't go in that July-Sept wave, each physical is valid for a year and I end up going around their birthdays, whenever that falls. I submit the current one I have and then when we go again, I submit the new one. The schools have had no problem with that.

Same here in my district. Has nothing to do with sports.

Re: physicals
Whether you need a physical every year will dependon the school district. Once your kids are playing school sports they wil require a physical every year. I take my children every year for a physical - regardless of whether it is required or not. I find that when you take them for physicals and the kids are not sic - I have more time to discuss variouls things with the doctor.

Re: physicals
FWIW - the form the school gives me says NYSED requires physicals for all new entrants and all children in K,2,4,7 and 10. Also for sports, working permits - and triennally for the CSE. But regardless of the NYSED requirements, our district requests new forms annually.
