bedda...i an no where near talking about Mike as far as his baseball historyt is concerned. He WAS a great catcher/hitter. He just doesn't have it ANYMORE. And not worth Yankee energy to get
Sometimes I have to defend my boy. True he is not playing like he used but I still like him.
And I still don't want him to retire as a Yankee...ugggh talk about indigestion...
i think what should be of more concern is that he goes into the hall of fame as a MET!
yeah, ask gary carter about that

Anyone else going to question why he was the starting catcher in the all-star game?
YES I AM.....Hitting a HR once in a blue moon does not make you a great catcher...
HE NEEDS TO BE PUT TO PASTURE!
Gotta love the hatin'.
Like I said to Jenn last week that she is still in denial over... show me a NL catcher that has better offensive numbers than Piazza. The only catcher out there that has even similar numbers would be LoDuca. But even LoDuca does not have BETTER numbers.
If you put Piazza out to pasture... you have to put just about every other catcher out there.
I am going to predict big numbers from Piazza the second half. If he wants one final big contract, he must produce these next few months.
Don't be surprised if he closes out the season .280/.350/20+HRs. VERY respectable for a 37 year old catcher.
You heard it here first.

Re: Piazza
Time to have some fun.
Player A: 72 Hits / 19 Doubles / 10 HRs / 39 RBIs / 23 BBs / .260 / .319 / .437 / .756
Player B: 68 Hits / 11 Doubles / 10 HRs / 39 RBIs / 36 BBs / .263 / .360 / .421 / .772
The stats don't lie RedHead.
You say player A should be put out to pasture... what about player B? The only difference here is... player B has more walks.... but player A has more extra base hits.
You tell me the difference.

who is B?
and if it was YOUR decision: Whether to keep Piazza as catcher for the Mets in this next year... or sell him for some $$$$$
YOU WOULD KEEP HIM?

Mike Piazza: 72 Hits / 19 Doubles / 10 HRs / 39 RBIs / 23 BBs / .260 / .319 / .437 / .756
Jorge Posada: 68 Hits / 11 Doubles / 10 HRs / 39 RBIs / 36 BBs / .263 / .360 / .421 / .772
Pretty similar stats eh?
I absolutely keep him cause like I have been saying all along... call him washed up... pathetic... old... whatever.
He is still one of the TOP offensive catchers to play the game today.
The only way you drop Piazza this season is if you significantly upgrade at 1B AND 2B. Then you go for a purely defensive catcher. But that is not going to happen.
Piazza isn't going ANYWHERE this season, even if the Mets WANTED to deal him, because he is a 10-5 player.
Hell... i would even reconsider re-signing Piazza for another year if he works it out with Willie that there is no way in hell next year he bats higher than 6th or 7th in the lineup.

IMO this next year could really be sensational and NOT having Piazza IMO wouldn't hurt the team

I consider Posada a slighly better upgrade over Piazza. But Posada is a turn-off thanks to that nasty contract he has. At least Piazza's contract is up this season. How many more years does Jorge have? A lot from what I remember.
I consider those stats GOOD for a 37yr old catcher. They are also VERY good compared to every other catcher out there.
You shouldn't get caught up with the monster numbers Piazza put up in the past. Those days are over... and I have accepted that.
You should focus on the fact that in TODAY'S GAME... those are VERY respectable numbers for the catcher (top 5 numbers).
If Piazza can put up .280/20HR/80RBIs... I am fine with that. If Piazza is willing to sign up with us for one more year at 6mil or less... I resign him.
But i doubt he is resigning anyways. He is the last piece of the "old school clubhouse - Piazza / Leiter / Franco / etc" thats still around. Omar wants all these guys out.. so I doubt Piazza gets offered anything after the season is over.

Are you reading what I am typing?
Piazza is a 10-5 player! HE ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE!
Even if the Mets wanted to deal him... he will most likely VETO any trade that gets put on the table.
The Mets know this... so better than make bad press in trying to trade him that they know most likely won't work.... he is here to stay for this season. End of story.

Not having Piazza next year won't hurt the team if they upgrade 1B or 2B with a BIG bat. This is the likely scenario. I can picture Brian Roberts being a Met next year.

Do you even know what a 10-5 player is?
What you would do is useless and moot because it would never happen in the real world. EX: see Carlos Delgado
Do you look at a pitcher's batting stats compared to other players? Do you look at the league HR average of shortstops and compare that to the league HR average of 1st basemen?
Apples and oranges. Maybe we should field a team full of Carlos Beltrans then. Maybe we should make Floyd catch so we can land another stud outfielder.

Re: Piazza
If the Mets were to use your logic and sell what they can to get value... you have to sell the right people.
The following players have BIGTIME value and are very tradeable:
Cameron Floyd Looper Hernandez
These guys have some value and can be traded:
Glavine Zambrano Matsui
Piazza... won't be traded. Most likely... he is done as a Met after this season.

1. no i don't know what a 10-5 player is?
2. I ASKED YOU ....WHAT YOU would do? You answered. I STATED what i would do... OF COURSE BOTH our opinions are MOOT. JUST ASKING WHAT YOU WOULD DO. SO STOP TALKING TO ME LIKE I AM AN AZZHOLE. CAN"T PEOPLE HAVE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD DO IF GIVEN THE DECISION TO MAKE?
HOLY CRAP...
ANY points you make that are valid always gets lost in your utter arrogance

Re: Piazza
My utter arrogance? Thats pretty funny knowing where its coming from. LOL Don't be ****** off cause I back up what I have to say with FACT.
With that said....
A 10-5 player is somebody that has at least 10 years of MLB service... and are with their current team for at least 5 years. Piazza is the only 10-5 player on the Mets currently. Jeter may be considered 10-5 if he already has 10 years of total service.
A 10-5 player can veto any trade the team comes up with... regardless if he has a no-trade clause or not.
This makes Piazza unmoveable. Case closed... plain and simple.
There is no way he accepts any trade at this point when he only has three months left on his current contract. Even if its to a major contender like Boston, St. Louis, or the Yankees.
Carlos Delgado was a 10-5 player last year. Toronto had your perspective... GET SOMETHING WHILE YOU CAN.
They couldn't move him. Why? Not because they asked too much. They would have traded him for a used jock strap and a basket of baseballs. Delgado vetoed every trade that came to the table. Most likely, Piazza will do the same. I could be wrong... but I doubt it.
And it has nothing to do with me talking to you like you are an AZZhole. But if you want to talk FACTs... please know the facts first.
You can discuss what you may do if you were in the situation. I just balance what I would do with reality a little better.
While you say you would trade Piazza.. I could say if I was the Mets GM... I would have signed A-Rod, Vlad, Hudson, Manny, and just about every other all-star that becomes a FA. But we all know thats just a pipe dream.
I'd rather talk about more realistic options instead.
If the Mets want to dump somebody to get some value back... the choice is obvious.... Cameron.
