Oh. My. God.
How blessed your family is that your DC was not in the car and that your DH survived that nightmare. That is awful.
There are a tremendous number of recalls on Ford vehicles, unfortunately. My DH is a mechanical engineer and refers to Explorers as Ford Exploders -- sadly for the exact reason.
I believe most companies have web sites where you can sign up for email notification of any recalls whether or not you are the original owners. I only learned this recently -- Maybe it will help others escape such a horror. I'm sure your family is shaken -- but you are so lucky that it wasn't worse. I hope your DH is okay and isn't too badly injured. I know the emotional trauma must be bad, too. I hope he's feeling much better now.
