Eh, as a Pinterest addict I am not a fan. Defeats the purpose of Pinterest and once everyone starts making "secret boards" and blocking people next thing you know there will be less and less content to pin. Stupid idea, it's not FB. I don't see the need to keep stuff private.

I've read a few articles blog posts aimed at guys telling them what to be wary of. One of them: the single girl that has been pinning wedding gowns and ideas
I think the secret board is great if you're pinning holiday gift ideas and you don't want friends and family following you see their gift before they unwrap it.

I think it's great. I never thought of pinterest as a "social pinning site", and actually really dislike that people I didn't even know could follow my pins. That turned me off, and I don't go on there very much. I thought of it as more of a place to put the ideas you like into different boards that you can reference later.

I'm so happy for this! And they only allow you to pin up to 3 secret boards so it's not that many- it'll still be public enough.
The best part for me is that I can block my mil & sil & still pin my workouts stuff without them knowing that I am on a super baby weight loss kick

It's a place to put your ideas but all the ideas that are on there are there because someone else pinned them. It technically is a "social pinning site" where everyone is sharing ideas they come across. So if everyone starts blocking boards and blocking people at some point there won't be much content to see and pin.
As someone who pins A LOT, I truly don't care who the pinners are that I am pinning from. I don't pay attention to the who made the pin, just what the pin itself is. There is no real personal info on Pinterest so if someone wants to follow me because they like my ideas, it doesn't bother me because I do the same.

Just about everything on the web has a "pin it" link under it, and that is where a lot of my own personal pins come from. Fortunately for you, there is a choice of private or public

YES! I understand the point of pinterest is to share ideas, but I tried planning a surprise baby shower over the summer and had to change my whole damn theme since mom-to-be up and decided to join pinterest and repinned all my ideas. Ironically enough, she's using them for her wedding next year! But I would have loved to have her baby shower that theme!
ETA: Also, I personally know I've been stalked through FB, pinterest, and here. Sometimes I'll pin something on pinterest and post a question on here or post the pin on here because it's funny or helpful. Stalker cross referenced my pinning, fb posts, and posts on here to confirm I was who I was. Bananas, I know, but this is what we've come to. I'm thrilled to be able to block this biiiiitch!

You may not have reason to keep your pins private but other people do. We've seen examples above about surprise parties, wedding gowns, etc. If everyone I know on pinterest made 1/2 of their boards private there would still be too any pins for me to look at everything. And personally, I believe that I have every right to be on pinterest without worrying about the stalker ex-boyfriend knowing where I want to go on vacation or what styles I am wearing. I do a lot of pinning from other sites anyway so I am adding more to pinterest than I would block. I just don't see how this will have a huge effect on pinterest overall.

LOL! I wonder who you're talking about...
This is the board I needed when a certain friend of mine had her bridal shower this summer!
Sure there is tons of stuff I don't mind sharing but it will definitely come in handy for parties and gift ideas!! Also when I first found out I was pregnant I started pinning a bunch of baby stuff and when I announced the pregnancy some people actually said they "knew it" because of my pinterest boards

i really like the idea. its NOT facebook but i does link your facebook friends list. i actually made a new pinterest that isnt linked to my facebook to post on my baby board. i dont need all my facebook pinner friends to know that im expecting. now i can just use one account and make it a private board. yay!
