PIO Question ....
I remember at my injection class the nurse saying that you start your injections after your retieval and will continue them through your first 12 weeks of preganacy if it is sucessful....When I went to my RE the other day and confirmed that (because I was not looking forward to those for so long) he said that after a BFP you switch over to the suppositories...I like his answer much better but I was wondering what everyone elses protocol is and why the nurse would have said that to the class ....Just curious !

Re: PIO Question ....
Each Dr. has a very different protocol.
Mine had me do PIO injections for three days - 1 day before transfer, day of transfer and one day after. Then I switched over to suppositories four times a day for the rest of the 2WW.
I know of other people who did PIO for the whole 2WW and if they got PG for the whole first ten weeks. And stil others who only had to do two progesterone suppositories a day as opposed to four.
If you want something other than what your Drs. usual protocol is you would have to sit and discuss it with him.
If there is more than one Dr. in your practice the nurse probably is covering the bases for all the RE's by letting you know you might be doing PIO for the first trimester.

Re: PIO Question ....
I was on PIO until I got my BFP, then they ordered me suppositories, took about a week to get them and switched to suppositories. I HATE the suppositories and would rather the injection (call me crazy) so I asked the doctor and he said it was okay to switch back to injections.
Overall protocol - switched after BFP. Each doctor is different though.
ETA - I was only prescribed two suppositories a day. I am 8w4d.

Re: PIO Question ....
I did BOTH up till about 8 weeks of my pregnancy, that is only because my Progesterone was always low.

Re: PIO Question ....
I did PIO for the 5 days I had to wait for transfer, then 4 suppositories during 2ww, then 2 suppositories post BFP.

Re: PIO Question ....
I was told at my injection class that I'd be on the PIO from the day after retrieval until my pregnancy test. If it's a BFN, they will have me stop at that point, if it's a BFP then I would still be on the injections until my first U/S which would be two weeks later.

Re: PIO Question ....
I have been on them since ER. I had the option of switching to suppositories, but I decided to stick with the PIO injects because they are so easy (and I would rather get one shot a day then have slime running out of my crotch all day!!). I'm not sure how long I will be on them. I hoping only till 8 weeks.
