Place to repair Nikon camera brats NOT Nikon in Melville?

I've been meaning to send my camera in for repair and then I realized that Nikon won't service it since its grey market. (body is for sure. Lens might not be). Is there anyone else who will work on it? I'm in Queens.


I need a camera for my moms birthday in 2 weeks. I may rent one. If anyone has a DSLR (Nikon) I can rent or borrow please let me know.

My camera broke on the plane back from our honeymoon.

I'm not too sure with Queens but in Nassau Berger Brothers might be able to help you... I'm just trying to remember if they just send their stuff back to Nikon anyway. It might be worth calling. They're in Syosset and I'm not familiar with Queens but figured I would throw it out there.

I do believe they have cameras you can rent though if you can't get that one fixed in time.

Photo Tech in the city near Union Square fixed DH's D40 and it works and looks like new again. People were very nice and professional as well.

My lens is the mot badly damaged (I'm not 100% sure the body has any damage), and I think the lens is NOT grey market. I'm not sure. I know the body is. All they told me when I bought it was that I wouldn't get the manufacturer's warranty. They did not tell me I'd have a hard time servicing it. Had I known I would have made a different decision. it's just that I scrimped and saved for so long for the camera, so I wanted to save the $100

I understand why some people go gray market. and it seems that the stores that sell gray market don't fully explain what happens when something goes wrong. If it were me, I would call/go to B&H and just push the issue hard(you may have done this already). When they refer you to Nikon tell them Nikon won't service it etc.

Also, if you're not going to go to B&H store, I'd go to another store and ask to try a lense or two on your camera to test it out.
I've always dealt with Cameta they are nice stand up people. I'm sure they'd let you try a lens. I didn't buy gray market on mine(D90 with 18-200), I bought it christmas eve and was taking a trip the day after christmas. Camera worked fine for christmas eve, on christmas the autofocus stopped working on my lense, and they were able to swap out the next day(dispite there being no returns on open stuff etc), so I was pretty happy with their service.

I know Berger Bros rents lenses and bodies. cameta sells refurbished Nikon stuff as well as used gear.

Once you know its the body, I would just start calling camera stores and tell them you have a gray market nikon body and it needs to be fixed and see what they say.

The lens is f'ed.

The body I don't know. The focus seems a little soft when I try to use it with other lenses I have (old kit lenses from a 35mm SLR) and I'm not sure if it's the crappy glass, the focus motor, the alignment.

The lens and body were each $800ish. I saw precsion wants about $160 each for repair. I def. want to fix the lens. The glass is fine (my filter cracked) but it's all out of alignnment. .

I think if I have to pay $160 to fix the body I might as well see if maybe a places thet fixes them will buy it or take it as a trade and just upgrade the body.

It just SUCKS

my dd wants a camera for christmas if I buy a package from costco or bjs are they legit? I guess i'm asking what is the grey market?

Grey market is manufactured for a specific country (not the US) and you would have to send it to the country it was manufactured for (typically canada or china.) Nikon USA is fully supported at the melville location only. You can tel by it saying nikon usa as being "legit."

There is a place that you can send it to (south carolina i think) but i honestly can't remember what the name of it was because i sold all my gray market stuff a few years ago and lost that piece of paper.
