Play date question
Please settle a debate between my DH and I... 6 yr old DD went to a play date. When picked up, she told me her friend’s mom went out for a little bit (in the car) and left them with a 7th grade neighbor (a boy if it matters) that I’ve never met. Ok or not ok??

Re: Play date question
2 6yos with a 12yo that you've never met? No, not cool.
I'm not saying that a 12yo couldn't babysit, just not some random 12yo that you've never met...

Play date question
I have a 6yo and I can tell you she would not be going to that house for a play date again. Definitely would not be okay with me.

Re: Play date question
I’m assuming you are winning that debate because HELL no.
I wouldn’t leave my kids with their 12 year old cousin who I trust and love.
I wouldn’t want it if a mom left kids even with anyone without my OK.

Hell no! I would not be ok with that at all. Definitely wouldn’t be dropping off my kid for a play date there ever again.

Play date question
Thanks everyone. We have a VERY mature 12 yr old niece that I leave my daughter with for a quick run to the supermarket, post office, etc. But it’s MY child and MY niece who I’ve known her whole life. My DH doesn’t see the difference.

Re: Play date question
I would not be happy about it but at the same time if she trusts this 12 year old with her kid the babysitter must be a responsible kid

Play date question
No, that's not right at all! A similar thing happened to us once. My SIL was watching my daughter and they were outside playing with the granddaughter of the lady across the street. Then the girls wanted to watch a movie, so my SIL let my 5 YO DD go to the lady's house. I went to pick her up and she's like "Oh, she's across the street." I didn't make a fuss, but I was NOT happy!

Play date question
If this is a new friend or first play date with them I definitely say no way! But if you've known the mom a while maybe she felt you would trust her judgement and needed to be gone for a very short time?

The difference is you know the 12yr. old and when you are watching someone else child you let the parent know if you are stepping out. She broke like every protocol. I would even tell my sister if I decided to let someone she didn't know watch my nieces. And she trusts me totally when I have them, like I am taking my niece to Cali this weekend without her trust.
ETA: Also you don't how a mom feels about certain things and who is around their children.

Re: Play date question
Nope not ok at all!! I would be annoyed and I would reconsider sending me child there again. Who does that? You are having a playdate and she calls over a neighbor to watch the kids?

Like what the hell did she have to do that was so important that she had to leave the kids with a neighbor kid?
Her Starbucks or target run couldn't have waited?

Re: Play date question
No, not okay. The only sway I might have is if it was unexpected and an emergency like DH's car broke down. But I still would have given you a heads up. I took a bunch of kids to a birthday party and my dd fell and broke her wrist. DH took DD to the emergency room and I had to have one of the other moms drive us all home. I texted the non driving moms to make sure that was okay with them since the plan and driver changed.
