play kitchen for xmas (17months) or 2nd birthday?

dd will be 17 months at christmas. is it too early to buy her a play kitchen or should we wait till her 2nd birthday?

most of the ones we like are ages 2+

i would hate to buy this as her 'big' gift and shes not ready for it. just looking for opinions on if i should buy it or wait a couple months till her 2nd bday.

thanks!

I think 17 mths should be fine. I bought it for my older daughter for her second birthday. But, my other daughter was using the kitchen i bought my older daughter even before she was 1. She used a small step stool to reach some things, but she loved the kitchen even more than the older one at first. now they both love it--one of the best toy purchases we have made.

DD was about 16/17 months when she got hers and it was the perfect age IMO. She still loves it at 26 months.

We didn't get DD#1 a kitchen until she was almost 2yo.

But we've had the same one since DD#2 was born and now at 18months she will play with it. She likes opening all the drawers and taking things in and out of the drawers. DD#1 pretend plays with it by "cooking" food and stuff, but DD#2 has just as much fun with it.

DS got a kitchen when he was 18 months and loved(s) it. For his 2nd B'day we got him a workbench and loves them equally.

A lot of his 2 year old girl friends are very much getting into dolls and the things that go with them so for her 2nd, you can get her a high hair, changing table, stroller, etc as a big gift. Or vice versa if she's into that already and save the kitchen for Xmas. But if you think of it, as Mommies, we had our kitchens before our babies. Chat Icon

ok we are going to get it!!

last christmas we had a bad experience with our gift choices.....we got her stuff that was 12 months+ and she had no interest in any of it. so we didnt want to make the same mistake this year by getting her something that was ages 2+

DD got her play kitchen at Christmas when she was exactly 18 months old. She loved it from Day 1, and still plays with it (not too much, but every once in a while), and she's nearly 4.5 years.

I think 17 months is fine, too. At this age, they love to copy grown-ups so a kids’ play kitchen would be the kind of thing that would keep her occupied for hours, especially if you play along with her! As she grows you can buy more accessories (wooden grocery products, etc) just to keep it more interesting! Maybe add a refrigerator or a dining table. We got ours online on aBaby.com – there’s a good variety and most of them are wooden play kitchens which is what we wanted.
