No, I think that Playboy's stupid "explanation" was more offensive. Just 'fess up that you screwed up and shouldn't have done a cover that is a take off on the Virign Mary, especially right before a big holiday celebrating her in Latin culture. Don't try to act like it's a weird coincidence and that you just liked the "retro" look.

For just the cover, its more tasteful that some they’ve had.
Im curious how many catholic readers are ‘offended’ (that being playboy readers I mean) and was that before or after they quickly opened their subscription to that layout.
I think playboy owed no explanation other than its art. She’s a beautiful woman, big deal. Its not like it shows her straddling a man or something. Some art commissioned by the church years ago showed more than this.
Most who are against playboy for this cover aren’t usually supporters of playboy to begin with so Im not sure why this is news.
JMHO

Not at all....and I would imagine the people who are, don't read Playboy anyway, so what's the big deal. I agree that Playboy shouldn't have had to explain anything. It's a photograph, photography is art, there doesn't have to be an explanation to satisfy people. If you don't like it, don't look.

It's Playboy--they print pictures of nakked girls in compromizing positons! That's what they are known for!
If the image of Virgin Mary is dear to someone's heart that someone probably shouldn't be looking at this magazine in the first place

It's controversial! But I don't expect much more from those magazine.
I find it more offensive to make those "college girls" specials with kids who are barely 18.

P.S. this is Mexican playboy, not Spanish.
and, I have been told, her boobs are small and perky, and probably real, just photoshopped/pushed more centrally in the cover shot to look rounder and bigger  so I stand corrected. and I am sorry, Maria, for defaming you thusly.
