Do you have those jumping ones? I'm terrified of them, too!!
My parents had them in their basement and (detached) garage. They had an exterminator out two years ago and they haven't been back.

Re: pleaaaaaaaase recommend an AGGRESSIVE cricket fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look for openings, holes etc. You can exterminate but unless you get to the root of the problem they will return! I found one coming through an electrical outlet in my den when we were doing some renovating.

I am fine with them staying in Times Square, but if you enter my house Mr. Cricket, you are going to die.
I hate crickets with a passion. My basement is loaded with them I am sure, but have only seen 1 so far. I make DH kill them, but I am going to get those sticky traps to get them. I also go down there armed with a can of bug killer spray when I do laundry.

Re: pleaaaaaaaase recommend an AGGRESSIVE cricket fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We use glue traps in the corners and by the walls, especially underneath baseboards. We don't want chemicals on our floors, walls, and in our lungs.

Keep cardboard boxes out of the basement, try to put a dehumidifier down there and get the sticky traps. Those things work!!

Cardboard boxes?
We have them for the first time in 2 years of living here.....is it because of cardboard boxes? Our place is full of boxes because of us packing.

J.C. Penney catalogue. Drop it on top of them and jump on it. This works especially well when those evil things are on a carpet. Just don't do it on the floor. SPLAT!!!!! Cricket guts everywhere. Or, you can spray them to death with any insect killer.

Re: pleaaaaaaaase recommend an AGGRESSIVE cricket fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We used a spray on the outside, spraying up under the edge of the siding and that seems to have helped minimize them.

We had them in our old apartment and the freaked me the HELL out!
Our landlord did something with Borax - I think he went around the perimeter of the basement with it. It worked for a while
Ugh - I feel your pain!

Call an exterminator, that's what I do for any type of bug issue. We have a contract with Suburban and they seem to be great.

Re: pleaaaaaaaase recommend an AGGRESSIVE cricket fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have had these too and we live in a co-op in queens, I HATE THEM!!!
My husband actually fixed the problem he got a product on bugspray.com
He said that two products are very effective:
1. nolo bait (which is a pathogen)
2. niban (which is boric acid surrounded by a protein that the cave crickets are attracted too)
My husband applies both of these products at the same time, the niban is a short term solution (kills them on contact) and nolo is long term. He reapplies it every few months, it has helped out A LOT.
You have to apply it where they live, for example damp dark places, hope this info helps! Good luck!
