Please excuse my ignorance- When I deliver can dh stay with me at the hospital?
I am really hoping the answer is yes. I can't sleep without him and I HATE being alone. We are thinking of delivering at Winthrop or South Nassau.

At St Catherines no. He wouldve been allowed to stay through the night if I was in labor but no. his visiting hours were 10-10. It was the only part of being in the hospotal that I hated. I cried every night when he left

At St. Charles he was not allowed to. Visiting hours were also 10-10.
My SIL delivered at South Nassau, and I believe her DH could stay with her if they wanted.

Do you mean overnight? You cannot at Winthrop. DH was allowed to stay until 10pm (I think or maybe 10:30pm). DH stayed a bit longer a couple of days.

Dont know about your hospital but at St.Charles DH could only stay if you payed for a private room ( which last time we did) and we got lucky because they only have 2 private rooms !

You'll be able to sleep w/ no DH there, trust me!!
I delivered at SIUH on Staten Island and DH was with me thru the birth and left at about 11pm (DS was born at 9:59pm) and came back at 9am the next morning. I barely blnked and he was back.
You will be exhausted, you'll be fine.
It's a hospital, not a hotel

Yup! Same here...although DH needed to get home anyway this time around because we have an older DD, but for DD#1 he was only allowed to stay till 10 and although I hated it, I was so tired, I just slept!!

I dont know about visiting hours, but have you seen the rooms at S. Nassau?? They are SO nice - two of my friends delivered there and I couldn't get over their rooms, I was jealous!

no, sorry
i don't personally know of any hospitals that will let yoru DH sleep over. they just don't have the space. even at south nassau, where the rooms are all private, there is only one bed. you don't want your DH sleeping in a chair - that is not restful!
trust me, i hated being alone in the hospital but my DH was there first thing in the morning at 9am and stayed until 9:30, 10 most nights that i was there (i had a c-section).
it will go by so fast, don't worry about him not sleeping there

luckily where I delivered, it has all private rooms and DH could stay if he wanted
he wound up staying the first 2 nights and then slept home

I delivered at S. Nassau but DH had to leave. Now if you deliver in the middle of the night then he'll have to be there and probably will be able to stay.

I had a private room at Winthrop and DH was able to stay as long as he wanted, even spend the night. They even told me the recliner turned into a bed

Ok - I'm going to call both hospitals in the morning and ask. I am terribly paranoid of hospitals--I have had really bad experiences resulting in the death of both my parents at hospitals due to mistakes.

I had a private room at LIJ. They had a chair that turned into a bed for DH. He was able to stay there.

I delivered at Morristown Memorial Hospital in NJ and YES DH can stay in the room. They renovated the rooms to all private suites so they have a patient bed and then the sofa becomes a bed for the DH to sleep in. It was fantastic. They have spa bathrooms and the have a masusse for a free one hour post labor massage. I loved it.

Nassau University Medical Center will allow DH to stay overnight if you are using a midwife for delivery.

he can't at south nassau.
but honestly i kicked him out each night because i was exhausted and wanted good sleep. i wouldn't have let him stay even if he was allowed. you will be so tired.

I delivered at Winthrop and DH stayed overnight the two nights I was there before my son was born. Once I moved to the maternity ward, he went home for the night and came back first thing in the morning.

I delivered at LIJ and I got a private room. My mom stayed with me the entire time (my husband was in the ER with kidney stones  )

At Winthrop he can stay in labor and delivery with you but not in your room. I was admitted and was supposed to have my c-section in the morning so he was prepraed to stay with me in L and D.... then they did it that night and he had to drive home after they put me into my room.

they can't stay then either. i delivered at 4:30am and DH had to go home. we both wanted a good night's sleep!

my DH was allowed to stay overnight bc there was no nursery  (it was a military hospital) since no nursery, DH was allowed to stay and MADE to i hope it works out for you either way though....
p.s. even though he was there, neither of us actually slept, so dont worry about that part of it lol.

I don't think many hopsitals would have the husbands staying over for security reasons.
Winthrop - like the pps said - the husbands can leave at 10 - a little after. You will be so exhausted - as will your DH - that you will both need your rest - and he comes back first thing in the morning!

I delivered at North Shore and my DH stayed with me. He slept in the "recliner" in the room. It wasn't a private room either. It wasn't necessarily comfortable, but after DS was born, neither one of us slept for long periods of time.
