Please help a mommy-to-be with baby books

I did not grow up in the USA and honestly don't know anything about baby/children's books.

What are the classics?

I feel a bit dumb asking the question but I figured you BTDT moms could help me.

TIA

My favorite topic - I love children's books!!!!

You are having a boy - so DEFINITELY Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, and Love You Forever - by Robert Munsch - I used to read it to my little sister!

ETA - I also bought "On the Night You were Born" by Nancy Tillman Before he was born, and then wrlote a note inside of it after he was born, I have it displayed on a shelf in his room, but its also a nice book for young children!

I don't really like any of the "newer" books, like Eric Carle's books or "Goodnight Moon". I DO like the old books (those would be books that were popular when *I* was young Chat Icon)....

My favorites were:
- The Story of Ferdinand
- Rikki Tikki Tavi
- The Five Chinese Brothers
- There's a Monster at the End of this Book

I have all of these for Jackson, and also "Happy Birthday to You" by Dr. Seuss. That one makes me laugh!

Re: Please help a mommy-to-be with baby books

We love the Clifford the Big Red Dog books (but DH is named Cliff so we're a little biased). Many of the above ones.

We found one called Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boyton (or a name like that) - it has a little song in it DH & I would sing to Jillian every day. Its cute.

In the beginning everything is fine, but now that DD is chewing on everything, I am out to get more board/fabric books she can chew on and I won't have to worry about her ruining them so much!
Happy shopping!
