Please help a mommy who just started formula: What is your "secret" to avoid lumps in formula?
I shake, I stir..... I still have small lumps at the bottom of the bottle.

I shake like crazy.... I have the liners, so I also smush away the lumps on the bottom thru the liner....

Re: Please help a mommy who just started formula: What is your "secret" to avoid lumps in formula?
Shake and shake and shake and shake like crazy. Then if I have the time, I let it sit for a few minutes to let the bubbles settle a bit.
Don't be afraid of shaking it too much!

Oh I shake like crazy. Let it rest, then shake again. I feel like I am practicing for a "Cocktail" remake.
I will try the "smush" technique. I have not tried that yet. Thanks!

I'm not exactly sure, but it makes the smoothest formula. LOL.
Its pretty cheap, like $10 or so. Plus, it makes a days worth of formula
ETA: I still had the BRU page up, its $7.99

Re: Please help a mommy who just started formula: What is your "secret" to avoid lumps in formula?
I have never ever had lumps in the formula. I always fill water first, don't overfill the bottle or else its hard to shake...add formula and shake really well...heat up and shake again. Never had a problem!

Re: Please help a mommy who just started formula: What is your "secret" to avoid lumps in formula?
I didn't have a pitcher and dint have problems. It's a waste of money, IMO. but everyone is different
This is what helped us:
Shake like a mad woman, while singing "shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake your baba baba, shake your baba." And, DS enjoyed that too!

I hear ya!
I remember so many nights where I would yell at DH "shake while your walking to me " He would take FOREVER to make a bottle.

You're putting in the water first, right? I would definitely check out the pitcher. My friend swears by it too.

Re: Please help a mommy who just started formula: What is your "secret" to avoid lumps in formula?
Are you using room temp water? I tried it with cold and it doesn't mix at all. I put the water in the bottle, then add the formula and shake a few times and it's pretty smooth.

It's the BEST!! I didn't like the pitcher idea because then I'd have to warm the bottle. With the mixer I used room temperature water and just mixed. So easy & fast! It wasn't expensive.

Exactly what we do. Room temp water in first, then the formula, then shake vigorously.

YES! Cold water makes more lumps - room temperature is better...
BTW - love all the fancy shmancy devices!!!

I shake, I stir..... I still have small lumps at the bottom of the bottle.
i found the only formula that didnt have this was nestle good start.. and it was the only formula that didnt have bubbles either when it was shaken.. we switched to that from the enfamil and similac my boys barley burped afterwards... so much less gas! good luck to you!!
