Please help me decide, re: baby food and organic products
I will be starting to feed my DD solids and I am interested in making her food. I've been doing research about organic vs. regular fruits and vegetables and it's making me crazy.
I was under the assumption that organic meant NO pesticides...but I am learning that is not correct.
Are there certain fruits and vegetables you will ONLY buy organic?
Do you do ALL organic?
Will you be doing organic milk when the time comes?
Where do you buy your organic produce?
If you don't make your own baby food...do you buy the organic baby food?
Ahhhhhh
Please help!
~Nicole =)

I make her food and buy all organic for her. I dont know how long I will be able to keep it up, but for now it has been working.
I buy the produce at Wild by Nature, and that is a hike for me, but there isnt organic food store close to me.

Re: Please help me decide, re: baby food and organic products
When I made my son's food, I used only organic.
I mainly shopped at Trader Joe's and whole foods but my Stop and Shop also had a large selection....
We do Organic Milk now...

Re: Please help me decide, re: baby food and organic products
I guess what concerns me is that even the organic produce can contain high levels of pesticides... some produce less than others, avocados and peas for example.
Is there any produce you stay away from or buy less of...or more of?
I am (trying) to not make myself nuts... I was NOT brought up on organic and do not do organic for myself... but would like to for my DD... so I am trying to find a balance!

I still do most of my shopping at Trader Joe's, once a month I go to Fairway and stock up on meats, etc. Trader Joe's seems to have better prices on organics, however, they don't have as good of a selection as Fairway and Wild By Nature. The manager told me, if they can't get the organic produce at a certain wholesale price, they don't carry it.
I get all of my organic milk, eggs, cereal, fruit and veg there.
If I can't get organic, I buy locally grown or only grown in US or Canada... the variety is really dictated by the season.
I will not buy S & S frozen organics, they all come from China... one of the most polluted countries in the world... you can't convince me that anything is even remotely organic in that country
The must have organics for us are: milk eggs all berries and root vegetables
The thinner the skin, the more often they are sprayed.
Raspberries/blueberries/strawberries are sprayed with pesticide more than 16 times in less than 14 days!!! Peaches are sprayed a lot as well. My kids love strawberries, wild blueberries and raspberries... if I can't get organic and fresh, Trader Joe's has frozen organic of all three.

Re: Please help me decide, re: baby food and organic products
When DD was an infant I used Earths best and Gerber organic (glass jars only). Now that DD is older we give her organic milk and also organic meats, fruits and veggies as well as most of her snacks. If you want to keep your DC organic as they get older its much easier if you eat organic since they tend to want to eat what you eat. Whole Foods, Trader Joes and BRU are great to buy organic food. BRU has a great variety of stuff for babies.
