Please help me feel better--nervous wreck! Updated 10/2
Thank you in advance for listening and any advice you can provide.
I am 12 weeks pregnant with DC #2. DS is 8 months old and an angel baby.
On Wed night I went for my NT scan and bloodwork, alone as DH stayed home with the baby. While doing the sono the technician wasnt making any comments like she did with DS - she said she was having a hard time getting a good reading because the baby was moving alot and had the hiccups.
After she finished she told me that the results were on the high side of normal at 2.7. She went on to say that it was still in the normal range and that the baby had a bridge to its nose and Downs babys usually have flat noses. She even made an arrow pointing to the nose on the pic for the doc to review.
I then met with my doctor and the NP. The dr said that he isnt overly concerned but is paying attention and feels that in all likelyhood the baby is fine. But due to my age (39 at time of delivery) and the scan results he recommends an amnio, which means genetic counseling before hand.
I spoke with the genetics person yesterday and she too said that the scan is not terrible and she would be willing to say that the baby is fine. She recommended waiting to schedule the amnio since the blood results wont be in until next week. We have the consult appt on the 17th so we can determine what course of action to take based on the scan and blood results combined.
I am an emotional wreck - I cant stop crying and thinking there is something wrong with my baby. When I was pregnant with DS everything was perfect.
If you made it this far, thanks for listening. I appreciate if anyone can let me know if they had a similiar experience.
UPDATE 10/2-- I had an amnio on 9/10 and the results came back negative for Down Syndrome. DH are beyond relieved and grateful! Sorry so late with the good news, we were on vacation and as usual, life got busy! Thank you all for your feedback and kind words!

Yes-I just posted on another thread that these tests have an extremely high number of false pos. Just your age alone will add into that number. Our genetics counselor told us 95% of positives are false!

yes my son's results were 2.9 and we got the same advice you did...all the other tests were "normal"....We did have a fetal echocardiogram done at 18 weeks though to further explore the heart as a high neck fold result ( what the #'s mean) could indicate a disability that would show heart defects early on...anyway that was fine as was our subsequent level 2 at 20 weeks.
My son came out 100% fine, no issues at all.
I made myself a WRECK googling possible scenarios and I was really scared, but I got a TON of replies on here and and another board that showed similiar results ( 2.5-3.0) and babies were almost always fine. So I felt a lot better after the intial freak out.
Trust the Dr.'s. They see this ALL the time and wouldn't give you false hope. Actually most would do the opposite and lean towards much more testing if they were worried.
HArd to do, but hope you can relax.

Relax. The NT scan in my opinion should be recall. I had a NT scan, no bridge and a 2.7. My odds were 1 in 23. I was besides myself. I did go for an amino myself and was glad I did. I had a false positive. Like the previous post said, there are a ton of false positives. If it will make you feel better get the amino to calm your fears.

Re: Please help me feel better--nervous wreck! (long) X-post from Parenting
My scan came back ok but my blood work reduced my number to borderline high risk. I was going to go for the amnio but they did a early level 2 and said the baby had no other markers for downs. Needless to say, my DD does not have downs and is a happy, healthy little girl!
Good luck and stay strong!!!
