Please help re: nanny salary
This may be long but I need input on what to pay a nanny.
My situation is as follows: I work from home full time and now that my kids are a little older I really need the help I am thinking of hiring someone from 10-5. The thing is that (a) sometimes I am crazy busy - hence the need for a nanny, and sometimes I am not busy at all - during those times I want to spend time with the kids and (b) my dd will be in school 5 mornings/ week and 2 afternoons and ds will be in school 2 mornings a week.
Basically, I would want someone who, when not watching my kids because they are either in school or I am with them she can be cleaning. She will not have the full responsibility of a nanny because I will be there etc.
Anyways, sorry this is so long but what would be an appropriate amount to pay such a person. I appreciate all input because I am completely lost

Re: Please help re: nanny salary
I pay my nanny 16/h for 2 very young kids. I would say 12 would be appropriate bc they are more of a mommy helper....but just a guess

Re: Please help re: nanny salary
I think you could find someone for 10-12 an hour for that job. We are looking for a nanny and only want to pay in that range, and I won't be home. GL.

Re: Please help re: nanny salary
I think $12 an hour is good, but I would also be very very clear about the job up front. Some people may not like feeling like a mother's helper or a maid when you're avail. to be with the kids. I would guess since school is back in you are looking for an actual nanny and not a babysitter persay. I wouldn't do an actual weekly sum since it could vary, but I would let them know what to expect at the least for a week if you plan to let them leave early or whatever. Plus even 10-5 is 35hrs a week so maybe offer an incentive like 2wks vacation after the 1st year or if you plan to take a vaction 1/2 pay for that week they will not be needed.

I would say about 12 an hr. I would also be very explicit about the fact that you are looking for a nanny/housekeeper/assistant. Goood luck
