Please help! stressed with kitchen renovations
So we are in the process of renovating our kitchen. We have hard wood throughout the house that we would like to refinish. Our original plan was to put tile in the kitchen; however we opened up the wall between the dining room and kitchen and it now looks like an extension of that room. I am rethinking our original plan and think we need to have the same flooring between the rooms so that the flooring flows. The problem is we were thinking of doing our cabinets a cherry mohogany. I'm afraid the cabinets won't look right with the wood floors...I don't want it to appear orangey. ANY suggestions with pictures would be helpful!! I just don't know what to do and I have to make a decision within the next day. PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanks ladies!

We had a similar situation. We opened up the LR and kitchen. The same hard wood floor is in both rooms. We put throw rug in the kitchen to break up all the wood. It's really not too bad. It's better than having a change in floor material.

Are you going with a lighter color floor? Here are some pictures I found for you.

Thanks! Yes, if we do hardwood in the kitchen I think our best bet would be to go lighter. I just hope it looks ok with the cabinets.

There just has to be a major difference in color- the floors have to be dramatically lighter than the cabinets.. and if your cabinets are a cherry red/mahogany color, and are in the warm family, make sure the stain on the floors is also warm, not cool.

i don't think it's bad to have a difference between the two rooms in flooring - it helps designate the kitchen space from the other rooms.
