Please help the culinary challenged -
Is a crock pot this the same thing as a slow cooker?
I'm looking for one of those things I can leave on while I'm at work and come home to a meal (can you tell I'm a FABULOUS cook?) ........
Is it REALLY safe to leave that thing going while no one is home?
Also, any good recipes cookbooks, webistes you can suggest would be MUCH appreciated !! DH and I just can NOT eat any more take out - we are growing width wise by the second !!

No one can tell me if there's a difference between these two things? I'm assuming a crock pot IS a slow cooker ........but when I look on the websites to buy one, some are named one thing, and some the other .......-

Re: Please help the culinary challenged -
yup- they're the same... "crock pot" is just name brand that Rival gave their slow cooker...
also.. its safe to leve on while you're not home.. i do it all the time! i've read that it uses as much electrictiy as leaving a light on when you're not home, which we all do, i'm sure... i just put it on a glass cutting board to help keep the counter from getting TOO hot. i make pot roast in mine alot... just buy a pot roast, a bag of baby carrots, a couple potatoes chunked up, and an onion chucnked up... add about 2 cups of beef broth for a liquid... and there ya go its just DH and i, and we get two meals out of this. i save the leftoevrs, and heat it up in the oven a few days later.. tastes just as good as the first night! i also have a recipe for chicken chili,too... that i'll post when i get home.

Re: Please help the culinary challenged -
i think they are the same thing.
yes i leave mine on all day when i am out.
IMO - everything is delicious when its been slow cooked.
i especially like anything "beef". i often put a beef brisket or stew meat in my slow cooker - makes it so tender.
the trick is to make sure there is plenty of water/liqiud in the pot and you will have no worries.
