Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
I'm pretty sure our baby has screaming fits because of gas. I feel so bad for him and we feel so helpless not being able to stop it. I did the leg bicycle thing and he just cried and screamed as he tooted, so he's definitely gassy.
We're useing the Playtex Drop-Ins, which is supposed to reduce gas.
Originally, we used Similac and Enfamil ready to use bottles, but have now switched to Gentlease, which is supposed to be easier on the stomach.
What other options are out there to ease baby's belly? I hate to see him in pain like this. My poor little guy...
As it is, I'm actually stopping giving him my breast milk in case it's the antibiotic I'm on that's causing him the pains or anything I'm eating that's doing it. The antibiotic I'm on causing ME pains, so maybe that's it?
We're seeing his doctor today, so I'm hoping he has some advice. I asked him last week about Gripe Water or Mylicon and he said not to give it to the baby... I don't know why. I hear good things and if it would let him feel better, I'd like to try it.
Thanks!

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
When DS was a baby he had awful gas and reflux. We used Enfamil Gentlease but then switched him to the Target brand gentlease after the first container for the Enfamil. I checked with the dr. and he said that all formulas go through the same approval process and have the same standards and they all have the same ingredients if you check the label. It ended up saving us a ton of money using the Target brand. And, it worked to help with the gas too. Plus, I would give Mylicon from time to time as well.
ETA: Not sure why you dr. would say no Mylicon. It is safe enough to use with babies. DS got it within the first month he was home and it was the only thing that worked. My dr. said it was fine and safe.

You don't have to stop giving him BM because of the antibiotic. You can offset it by giving him a probiotic to help with the good flora in his tummy. Just a thought.

The only one that worked for us and we tried almost all of them was Enfimal Nutramigen, DS was a different baby after putting him on that

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
DD has been great on Gentlease. I too had concerns that by BM was bothering her so I just gave her Gentlease for a few days to see if that leveled her out (it did some but we also started giving her a little Zantac) and then I started giving her the BM i had pumped when I was solely giving her formula and she seemed to tolerate it better. She was a much different baby once on the Gentlease and Zantac.
We had her on the lowest dose possible for Zantac and it helped her a lot and now she is only on it as needed.

My ds was a colic mess! We put him on gentlease and used dr. Brown bottles. That combo was great for him. Drop ins did nothing for him. Never shake the formula to mix, get a spoon and stir it to avoid bubbles

DS was really gassy and we found it was due to the drop ins (just a thought too). We switched to born free.
We used mylicon with his bottles too. (wonder why he said not to??)
(use regular enfamil though)

We used Enfamil Gentlease and if you go to Target, you can get a can 3 times the size for a third of the price. It's Target brand and literally says on the can, compares to Gentlease. Pediatrician approved and saved me a ton of money and worked just as well.
We use playtex Ventaire bottles, room temp bottled water and 1 drop per ounce of water of little tummies gas drops. HTH

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
We had to switch DS#1 from Similac Advanced to Similac Sensitive. After that we had no more issues with gas or fussiness.
ETA Mylicon or gripe water didn't work for DS#1. To ease his discomfort I gave him 1 oz of chammomile tea until I switched formula. We also used Playtex drop ins. they worked the best for him. We tried Playtex Ventaire and Dr. Brown's and it didn't work for him.

Same here.
My Dr also said no to gripe water since it's herbal and not approved by the FDA. It's also a sedative for the baby and doesn't break up the gas pockets.
But, Mylicon was okay and works really well.

We used Good Start Gentel plus and switched to the Tommee Tippee bottles and her gas went away in like 2 days. We also used Mylocin drops. I loved the conv. of the drop ins, but they made her sooooo gassy and we burped every 2oz while she was a nb

Gentlease worked well for DS for gas. It takes a few days to get the old stuff out of their systems.

Gentlease, but it does take a few days/ a week for a change to be noticed. Give it time--he's also just getting used to being outside of you!

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
My only piece of advice is, dont keep switching so often. Your baby in what, like 2-3 weeks? Changed 2x already? You are not giving him enough time to Djust tonthe formula. Give it some time.
Ds wasmvery gassy, was on similiac advance. I wanted to swith him. Ped said no, the good in the formula far out weighed the gas.
Try some mylicon drops in each bottle. Dont burp after every ounce. Let him finish then burp him. Keep him upright after he is fed and burped. Let him lat on his tummy, all these will help him.

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
DS #`1 had bad gas and would scream in pain. I switched to Good Start and in about 10 days he was FINE. no more gas issues (he was 4 weeks old when we did the switch)
DS#2 is a gassy baby. I was BF & using Good Start since 2 weeks old. I stopped BF at 3months because I felt that whenever I bf it irritated his reflux more than the formula. At 4 months (well just before) I noticed he started spitting up more and seemed more gassy than usual. I switched to Dr Browns bottles and saw no change. So I went back to Drop ins.
I think my DS is just a gas monster. he isnt in pain, never (well really really rarely) screams out just minor discomfort sometimes. So I give him gas drops before nap and bedtime and it seems to help.
GL
ETA: At 4 weeks old my DS was approved ot use mylicon by the ped., She said the stuff is so gentle I could use it 5-6x a day if needed.

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
you may want to try switching bottles. I used to use the Drop Ins and DD had terrible gas!
I switched to the MAM Anti Colic bottles and they are great! Super easy to clean and they get all the air out.
I know everyone raves about Dr. Brown's but they are a PITA to clean and you can't mix formula in the bottles!
mam bottle video
ETA the video of them on youtube and obviously they come in boy patterns as well! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Please rave about a formula you now use for a once gassy baby...
DD had horrible gas and colic
We went through Similiac Advanced Enfamil Gentlease Enfamil Soy and Finally Geber Goodstart Gentle.
The second day dd was on goodstart she was like a new baby. I was able to take her off all her meds and she was so much happier. No more gas or constipation.
