Please read...need advice with newborn son #2 and overnights...

I just gave birth to my second son last Thursday. The first few days went well. I would BF and baby would sleep and get up for feedings. For the past 2 nights it seems that he is up ALL NIGHT! Ryan sleeps & eats all day, and then 10pm hits and it is misery until 5am. I nurse him every 2-3 hours but he won't sleep. He is crying and wants to be held. DH & I have tried putting him in the pack & play, bassinet, stroller, bouncer, etc. Nothing works Chat Icon

He wants to be held or falls asleep nursing in my lap. As soon as I put him down, cries & cries. I need some sleep at night because I also have an (almost) 2 year old to take care of all day.

It seems he has his days & nights reversed. I know he is only 5 days old but any suggestions?

sorry I have no advice but my DS did the same thing, he's 6 weeks now but the first 2-3 weeks were torture bc he wanted to be held all night, I think he just needed to feel cuddled and feel warmth....have you tried swaddling? it worked a little bit for us.

no advice just Chat Icon DD (who is now 3.5) was the same way. You just have to ride it out. It'll get better, hang in there!
Have you heard of Happiest Baby on the Block? Some of those techniques worked for us.

miracle blanket, swaddle me. Any one of those that keep him nice and cozy and snuggled. that was all that worked for my DD. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks! All those techniques worked for DS #1 but this one doesn't seem to like to be swaddled. He has been passed out since 6am - wakes up to eat & goes back to sleep. Of course - during the day when I am entertaining DS #1! Then tonight, he will be up all night Chat Icon

My DD did the same thing in the beginning. Luckily I don't have an older child because I would keep my sanity by sleeping in the morning when she finally decided it was time to sleep. At 6 weeks she got a lot better but nights can still be rough. Can you have someone come in the morning and play with your older child while you catch up on sleep? I'm sorry I don't have any better suggestions. Chat Icon
