We adopted him yesterday from the Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter. He's been such a good boy so far! (Please excuse my horrible kitchen floor and the mess. Our house is under construction and a disaster!) Some more pics in my album.

Re: Please say hello to our newest family member...

He is sooooo handsome!! What a gorgeous boy, I love his face!

I see what you mean about his weight but he's not terribly thin. Maybe start out with 2 1/4 cups and go from there. Did they tell you what he was eating before?

Expect soft poops for a week or so while he gets used to his new food and new home. I hope you have lots of plastic bags on hand! Chat Icon

You should update this thread with new behaviors and questions. Enjoy your night with him and thanks for the pics!

Thank you all :) And thank you, Tricia...I was concerned about the soft poop! They told me he was eating Pedigree so that's what we got him for now, but I would like to get him on a better food, unless you think that is ok. The pics don't even show how thin his hind side is. Everyone comments on it. I'll see if I can get some better pics when he wakes up. Right now he is snoozing in his crate Chat Icon

Re: Please say hello to our newest family member...

Now that I see him, don't compare his pics to Brinkley. Brinkley has a pretty thick coat and a hairy @ss. Chat Icon Jensen looks to have a thinner coat and as long as his back legs are muscular (which they look like they are) and not bony, don't worry too much. Plus, he's still growing so his needs will change for food and exercise.

As for the food, here's some reading for you, the link in the thread was a real eye opener and somewhat upsetting:

WOW. I had no idea about that stuff in pet food. What brand do you feed Brinkley?

very interesting Tricia! i was actually thinking about switching Miller's food recently.... we feed hershey and miller the same brand food (the brand we feed them isnt named on that website) but i've been hearing more and more its better to feed cats grain-free food.... i think im going to swtich him to natural balance

It's really terrible, isn't it? Chat Icon We feed him Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish because he appeared to have allergies when we got him, and the fish oil helps with dry skin too.

However, the parent company of NB was affected in the huge dog food recall years ago, as were many others. I'm not 100% comfortable with them but some friends I knew with allergy/dry skin issues used it so we tried it. He's been doing good on it ever since.

I considered doing some more research and switching him because I keep thinking - he's going good but could he be doing BETTER? I don't know. We have two huge bags left so if I do switch, it won't happen for another month at least.

Yea, from what I've seen, animals don't really need as much grain as they get from mainstream food anyway. The only thing is that NB is pricey. Chat Icon
