Fred's file is being evaluated by North Shore Extended Care for rehab and by St. Johnsland in Kings Park. Both places have a TBI unit.
I'm hoping North Shore will accept him. I've been on pins and needles for weeks about this now and it could come down to this week or next.
I'm also hoping insurance continues to be good to him and pay for all the rehab he needs.
Fred will need months more rehabilitation and soon he will be fitted for a prosthesis.
If anyone knows anyone who works within the system at North Shore and may have some "pull" I would greatly appreciate someone putting the word out.
Unfortunately, not all places take everyone. Somehow, everything has worked out until now and I hope our good luck continues.

North Shore wants to speak with me about his discharge plan. Ok, now I'm nervous. The plan is that my parents are moving back from AZ and he will live with them of course with in home professional help.
This is a big sticking point with these places because they don't want to get stuck with him if insurance craps out.
I hope that's a good enough plan. I have so much anxiety I'm in tears.

I put a call into them over an hr ago and haven't heard back. I guess they are busy.
I'm freaking out here.. I don't know how much more I can take.

now I'm wondering if I should call again. I'm thinking the admissions person didn't get the message or something.
Maybe I'm just being super paranoid.
I'm sure they're busy even on a holiday week like this one.

We spoke and all she is waiting for is a bed to open up. Nothing this week, so it will most likely be next.

eta: she was asking me questions that didn't make sense. About his condition..sounds like she was confusing him with someone else.
In fact, she did confuse him with someone else. She's got the story now and said I answered all the questions correctly.

well, she didn't say that in those words but she said let's see what happens next week. Also, the financial people have to get an authorization. She was amazed so far about how much insurance has paid to date. 8 weeks at an acute rehab hospital is almost unheard of. Usually they get transferred to subacute after 3-4 weeks.

You know how I feel about NSUH CECR. I wish I still knew people there but we havent had a relationship with them in two years. You have all of my prayers. It is exactly where he should be!
