My DD is 4 months and I have been all around the mulberry bush this summer with her 7 yr old sister. So we never got a schedule down pat. I am not worried about it though. We'll get one goign now that things settled down and her older sister started school. Since now we have piece asnd quiet hopefully we can get a set schedule going.

Re: Please show me your 5 month old's schedule..

7:30am: wake-up
8am: cereal & bottle
10am : nap
11am: fruit & bottle
1pm: nap
2pm: bottle
4pm: nap
5:30pm: veggie & bottle
7:30pm: bath
8pm: bottle & bed

He takes about 3 short naps (about 45min. to an hour) during the day. Inbetween the naps and feedings, he plays in his walker, jumperoo, on the floor now that he is sitting, tummy time, I take him for walks and I take him out with me.

His feedings are similar to my DD's. I am going to try your napping schedule and see how it goes.
She naps but they are inconsistent.

Re: Please show me your 5 month old's schedule..

Don't feel bad. My son Tyler is almost 6 months old and he is still not on a schedule. He wakes up between 4-7 times a night. It is horrible.

5:30- Wakes up and 4 oz bottle.

8:30-9:00- Nap

9:00- Bottle/Fruit

10:30-11:00- Nap

11:00- Bottle

12:30-1:00 Nap

1:00- Bottle

2:30-3:00 Nap

3:00 Bottle

5:30-6:00 Nap

6:00- Veggies/Bottle

8:00- Bath/Massage/Book/Cereal and Fruit/Bottle

8:30ish- Bed

10:00- Wakes up, has a few ounces goes back to bed.

12:00- Same thing

12:30- Same thing

2:00- Same thing

2:30- Same thing

4:00- Same thing

5:00- Same thing

5:30- Awake for the day

That is how a typical night goes, give or take a few feedings. Times vary too.
I just do not get it. Hopefully one day he will sleep better.

Re: Please show me your 5 month old's schedule..

6 a.m. wake up and bottle
7 a.m. drop off at daycare
9 a.m. daycare gives bottle
1 p.m. daycare gives bottle
4 p.m. daycare gives bottle
6 p.m. pick up DS from daycare
6:30 p.m. cereal and fruit
7:30 p.m. bath
8:30 p.m. bottle and bed

He naps during the day. Usually one good one (1 1/2 or so), the rest are catnaps. No schedule whatsoever for napping... Chat Icon

I'll also be increasing his cereal and fruit to twice a day, so daycare will give in the morning starting next week.

DS's naps were also inconsistent for awhile. I worked hard to get him on a schedule (took me a few weeks). I read his tired signals and now I put him in his crib for all his naps so he doesnt get distracted by the TV or my dogs. Sometimes he will go down for longer than an hr but not often. I know as he does more, crawling and more playtime, his 3 naps will eventually turn into 2 longer naps which is what happens with most kids and than eventually to 1. DS used to fight taking naps, he is so nosy (always has to know what's going on so he never wanted to nap) and would get so irritable and angry and cry so I eventually just started putting him in crib when I saw this and he learned it was nap time.

WOW!!! Your DS sounds like mine, but he only wakes up twice a night and usually takes 6oz at a feeding.

He won't take a pacifer at any of those feedings? Since he is only taking a few oz, maybe he just wants some su cking comfort and not the food itself?

Kate,

My son never took the pacifier since day 1 so that does not work. Honestly, nothing does Chat Icon

Mine do more often than not but it's still not 100% and has only started in the last couple of weeks.

DD sometimes needs a bottle at 3-4 am. I give her 4 oz. just to top her off. Anymore throws her off the schedule for the am. She won't eat for the breakfast feeding and well, with two, keeping them on the same schedule is important.

DS is a thumbsucker so he sleeps right through

Since about 10 weeks he was sleeping from 8pm-6am, but was waking several times during the night in which I would pop the pacifier back in and had one night feeding at about 3am. Then I read Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child and at 4 months followed those recomendations and moved his bedtime up a bit and started letting him soothe himself back to sleep. After 2 weeks of that, he had no mroe night waking except for his feeding as was sleeping 7pm-6am. Then as of last week when he turned 5 months, he cut out the night feeding and has been sleeping straight through 6:30-7pm to 6-6:30am.

When DS is not at daycare, he has a great schedule because he naps well at home. At daycare, he has to watch everything and won't nap and his days get screwy. But, a typical weekend is:

6am - Wakes up-Veggie and 6oz bottle
7:30am- nap for an hour or two.
9:30am- 6oz bottle
11am - 2 hour nap
1pm - 6oz bottle (usually not the whole)
2:30pm - 2-3 hour nap
4:30-5pm - Veggie and 6oz bottle
6pm - Bath
7pm - 3oz bottle and sleep.

Sorry!!! He doesn't!!! Chat Icon

Lately DS has been waking up several times a night for pacifer and then going back to sleep without needing bottle. Sometimes, though, the paci doesn't soothe him back to sleep and he wants to eat once sometimes twice a night.

When Ds was around 3 months old he would go to sleep later around 10, but he slowly pushed that time up on his own. For awhile he was waking up for a feeding around 4, so instead of feeding him in the middle of the night, DS or I would feed him another bottled before we went to bed around 11 or 12 to help get him through the night. Eventually he cut that bottle out on his own and now sleeps from 8 to about 7:30. Sometimes babies dont need a bottle in the middle of the night even though we think they do, sometimes it becomes more of a habit for them. We picked this up when a few times DH and I would just put him in bed with us and not feed him and he slept fine. We realized he didnt really want or need the bottle we just thought he did.

ETA: For awhile DS would wake up several times a night. I think he just neededhe to know we were there and we would pat his back, pop his binky back in and he would be fine. Now he can put his own binky in if he wakes up (if he can find it and doesnt throw it out of his crib) and soothe himself back to sleep. He may whine for a second but we done run in there. We leave him for a couple of minutes and usually he puts himself back to sleep.

At three months Makayla suddenly started to sleep from 8:30- 6:30. It seems like when she has a day that she naps really well that next morning she will sleep until 7! Even if she wakes up before 7:00 I do not feed her until then.
