Please Talk To Me About a 103 Fever In An Almost 2 Year Old

We just got back from a trip in the middle of the night. Chloe barely slept during the 12 hour drive so naturally lost A LOT of sleep. About an hour ago she started burning up and I took her temp and it was 103.1. She has NEVER had a fever this high:) I panicked, of course and called the DR. I gave her MOTRIN and TYLENOL and was told to altternate them. They asked if she had any other symptoms which she doesn't. They especially asked about soars, refering to Coxsackie and so far, nothing.

They said I can either bring her in (they'd check her ears) and snce she is two they'd check for a UTI and that made me nervous. Would this be with a catheter? I totally don't want her to go through this so I opted to monitor it and if it gets worse tonight, will go to the PM Emergency Clinic or if its still 103 in the AM I will bring her in.

Please tell me how you would handle a 103 fever in a two year old:)

Thanks:)

Chels just went through this about a month or so ago...it ended up being Roseola, she had no other symptoms what so ever, she was in good spirits but her fever was sky high. I freaked...she broke out in the rash a day or two later after the fever brokeChat Icon

Well, Peyton was at the Dr. today. Last night she had 104.3 fever and this morning 103.8. They think it is the beginning of cocksacki. She says her eyes burn, she had one loose BM this morning and her throat was red with white spots(according to Dr). She was Neg for Strep. The Motrin is controlling her fever, but when it gets close to time for more she is right back up at almost 104. She just started complaining that her privates(vagina) hurts and has cried about it 3 times since her nap. So I think UTI is a possibility for us too. I am gonna see how that goes til morning.
NO cathedar, don't worry. What they do is, they give you a little bag that tapes onto the outside of her vagina and catches the urine when she goes.
Hope she is feeling better soooon!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
