Please tell me all about Huntington Hospital
I am having a c section there soon! Please tell me about this hospital. Do I need to supply pacifiers? Will they encourage the baby to sleep in my room? Are they stingy with pain meds? How is the food? Is it easy to park? Is it clean?? Thanks!!

Please tell me all about Huntington Hospital
We loved our experience there. Food was normal hospital food. I had no problem with my epidural and getting tapped off when I needed it other than when it was time to push. Parking is no problem. It's clean. I wanted a single room but they were all full when I was there but it worked out even better and I had a double with no roommate. Dh had his own bed to sleep in and the room was bigger than a single. Just didn't have my own shower...had to go a few steps down the hall. No big deal.
I had the baby with me the entire time. They only took her when she needed to be checked. I wanted her with me. I don't think there were any babies in the nursery, they were all in the rooms.
Don't know about pacifiers bc dd was EBF

Re: Please tell me all about Huntington Hospital
I just had a repeat c/s there last week. I had another great experience there. Bring your own pacifiers. They did not have any last week and from what I heard they only have a very small supply mostly for boys who are getting circumcised. As far as keeping the baby in the room they do whatever you want. The first night I sent her back but then the other nights they brought her into me. It was totally my decision. As soon as she was done with feeding I would call the nursery and they would bring her back. Or I could have kept her in the room. Pain medicine was ordered from the dr and every time that the medicine was due they would come give it to me. (they would ask first if i wanted it) I also asked to get gas medicine and they do give stool softener. On week days there is free valet parking. All your guest would have to do would be to go up the north elevator. Otherwise the parking would be in parking lot E and walk through the er door and up that elevator. There use to be a door that took you right into the maternity section but for security reasons they only have staff enter there. However when you are discharged from the hospital you can go out that door. Every single nurse that was there were extremely nice. I had major MIL drama when I was there and all the nurses and my OB were like therapist. They helped me get through a lot. I do have a few favorites When I delivered they said there were a lot of babies being born. I really thought I was going to have to share a room but luckily I didnt. Then the next day 11 babies went home so the floor was pretty empty and I had the room to myself. Dh did lay in the bed next to mine and the cleaning lady (who is sometimes nice sometimes not) told me the bed has to stay up at all times. So the next time dh laid on it we just made sure to put it back up. It is very clean and I suggest the shower that is on the same hall that main doors are. It has a seat and glass shower doors. I only had to wait once for it and it was always clean. If you have any other questions lmk. I just left there on sunday so its fresh on my mind.

I've heard Huntington doesn't have a NICU. Knock on wood what if one is needed? This is one if two major concerns I have about delivering at this hospital. Thanks

My girlfriends baby was sent to LIJ when she delivered prematurely and the baby needed to be in the NICU.

Re: Please tell me all about Huntington Hospital
I had a great experience there in Oct. My DS was given a paci, maybe b/c he was circumcised?
They come to you when your pain meds are due. However, if you feel like you need it before call the nurses and they will take care of you.
Parking can be tight depending on the time of day.
The food was fine. Nothing spectacular, but not bad either.
I had a double room, but did not have a roommate the entire time.
I had my DS stay in the nursery every night (he is formula fed). They came to get him at around 10pm and brought him back to me around 7am. I'm sure if I wanted to keep him more I could have, but they were not pushy about it at all.
My only complaint was not having a shower in the room. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Just a slight annoyance.
