Please tell me I can keep my (almost) 11-month old entertained...

in a church for a Catholic wedding in a few days. To say I'm anxious about it would be an understatement Chat Icon She is so active and fights me to get down and crawl wherever we are, how am I going to keep her seated & content?

Tips moms?

Re: Please tell me I can keep my (almost) 11-month old entertained...

I just had to bring my 10 month old DD to church for my son's communion a few weeks ago. I was def scared but she was ok. I made sure she slept alot right before we got there so she wouldn't be tired and cranky. I gave her her bottle when we got there so that bought me about 10 minutes of quite while she drank that. I brought lots of toys and she would stand holding on to the pew wlk back and forth a little and play with the toys when we would have to sit and I would hold her when it was time to stand and she was so amazed at all the people around and the music she wasn't concerned with being put down. I had a friend on stand by to take her outside in case she got cranky and loud but thankfully didn't have to.

I agree! It's also a bonus if she's due for a bottle...that will buy some time. Also, Abby enjoys her DoodlePro thing...it's travel size, or maybe crayons. My older DD was entertained by lift-the-flap books for a while.

Of course sit in the aisle, and leave some space between you and the next person so she can move around on the pew. Otherwise, don't be ashamed to walk outside if she starts getting loud!

Thanks everyone. I didn't know if it would be rude for her to nibble things in church or not Chat Icon Guess not, which is good!

Maybe I'll drag my mom with me in case DD gets rowdy, she can take her outside since I do want to watch the wedding.

It's a friend wedding (DH & I are both super close with both bride & groom, and DH is in the wedding) and the bride has babysat for DD a few times, she loves her. I didn't even think about bringing her, but the bride really wants here there so she can take pics with her.

cheerios would be my defense. Also, I'd sit in the pew closest to an exit just in case. And possibly explain to the bride that there is a chance that DD will have an outburst of some sort (not even just crying...i can see my son babbling or blowing rasberries the whole time). And then see how she feels at the chance that that will happen.

We took DD to church this past weekend and she was a saint. I was so impressed!! She loved just looking around and "socializing" with the other churchgoers. However, I think we have very differently tempered DDs. Chat Icon

I suggest sitting towards the back of the church near the end of the pew (on the outside). I know - not great wedding locale - but it may just be what you have to do. I second the puffs/cheerios idea. Also - perhaps your MIL can come w/ you to the church so you don't have to miss anything and she can entertain DD ... and the bride still gets her picture! Good ideas. My MIL can't go, so it will be interesting.

And I love that your DD was a saint in church-- how perfect Chat Icon
