Pls. tell me I'm overreacting.

DS smiles, laughs, hugs, kisses, follows me around, even responds to his name but I am noticing it's like he picks and chooses when he wants to respond to his name or to someone calling him. For example, the other day when we took him pumpkin picking DH and I kept calling him to get his attention so he would look up to take a picture and he was more interested in the grass. Today I put him on the swing and was trying to get him to smile to take a picture but he didnt. But the other day DH took him to the park and DH said he was smiling and laughing the whole time. I guess it can also depend on his mood. I think he is teething, he just hasn't been himself. I just get nervous with all this autism talk and I know it is more prevalant in boys. But than I also think he will be 7 months on Friday and is already rolling over, crawling and pulling himself to stand.

At what age did your babies truely respond to their name? Does anyone else's baby ignore you if there is something else that interests them? Maybe I am just thinking into it too much.

My oldest is 18 months and still ignores me Chat Icon but will turn around when someone else calls his name. I wouldn't worry about it. It sounds like he is doing great.

See this is what I think he is doing...it just upsets me though. I posted a couple of weeks ago when he started crawling how he was obsessed with the dog food. When he crawls over to touch it I say, "Tyler, no", he would look at me, smile and go for it again. But he doesnt always respond like that. I guess he probably gets sick of listening to me all day since I am home with himChat Icon

Babies are smarter than we give them credit for! He sounds fine and it probably is just selective hearing. When it suits him, he'll pay attention...when it doesn't, you are out of luck.

My son is 1 year and he does that too. Maybe I'm naiive but I'm not worried about him at all. It sounds like he's just testing his boundaries, some kids just find it funny when their parents get a stern voice, they just don't get it yet.

Re: Pls. tell me I'm overreacting.

DS is 6 months and he does the same thing. I think it's totally normal. Sometimes he looks right at me when I'm trying to get his attenion, other times, it's like he's totally ignoring me. I know how you feel though, I'm constantly obessing about DS's health and worrying about everything!! Try not to worry though - I think it's normal!!

I'm sure he's FINE! When I was reading your post and then I got to the fact that he'll only be 7 months old, I had to laugh a little because Ava does all those things and she's 16.5 months old! She ignores me and plays with the dirt or she'll be in a bad mood and not want to be on the swings, or she'll just ignore me altoghether. TOTALLY normal!

Re: Pls. tell me I'm overreacting.

Thank you everyone for making me feel better. Sometimes I get super nervous b/c of everything that I read. Tonight I gave him a bath and he was looking at me and smiling and when I called him he crawled over to me. I think he was just ignoring me or probably more interested in something else. I guess he's getting sick of looking at me all day Chat Icon

Totally, TOTALLY fine!!!! Chat Icon

He is the same age as Cailen... Cailen does that all the time, and I'm always looking for reasons to freak out!!! Chat Icon I am around autism in my job all the friggen time - its always on my mind....

If you have any questions, FM me - but it seems he is engaging in very typical 7 month behavior!!!!
