i would love to adopt a dog from a shelter, but they are too big and most of the time they don't know the history of the dog. i will try to adopt a dog from a rescue group, but i heard you have to be a previous dog owner. Breeders i heard can be expensive.
Shelters have small dogs also. NSAL had a room just for small dogs

i "acquired" my dog from my sister and BIL. he is orginally from a breeder. i plan to adopt my next dog.

We always get our pets at shelters. DH had specific instructions when he went to look at pups at the shelter - pick the ugliest, saddest, oldest dog to rescue, and he did exactly that. We adopted a 9 year old, matted hair, shaking, scared, dandruffy little chihuahua, and he turned out to the absolute SWEETEST doggie ever
both of our dogs are from shelters, but for our first one we picked the most pathetic one at the whole shelter (the CACC in manhattan). she was skin and bones, shivering in the back of a cage, missing clumps of hair, and had the worst cough. at times i didn't think she would make it, but she is now the most PERFECT pet i could ever have asked for!! this is us, one time when i was really sick and she wouldn't leave me...

we got Jessi (on the right) from NSAL and we got Morgan at the local county animal shelther here in NC...both are great dogs!
